Just wondering if such a thing exists? I really like http://www.gmap-pedometer.com for quick and easy route measurement but it lacks detail in off-road areas. Bing maps have full OS 1:25/50 detail but I can't see a tool for simple route measurement?
Memory Maps look good but I don't really want to pay £160...
Cheers

Try this: http://www.maptogps.com/?easting=560500&northing=193500
Allows you to measure using the OS 1:50k layer.

Similar to the above, Bike Hike: http://bikehike.co.uk/ could be your friend. Includes layers for OS (1:50k)/Google Maps/OSMcycle.

Re: Bing-map pedometer?
Cheers guys. BikeHike looks the more promising for my needs as I like its save and print options - but at the moment it's saying "this tile cannot be served at this time". Hopefully it works better for me tomorrow...

Don't know if this is exactly what you're after, but Bing maps has a basic built in route drawing tool which can measure distance. Click on "My Places" in the left panel (it's the yellow star) and a "My places editor" tool window appears on the map. Bottom of the tool window, third from left is "Draw a path or trail on the map".

Re: Bing-map pedometer?
OK, this piqued my interest and I spent a bit of time putting together a tool to allow you to use OS maps on an existing web application which uses Google maps. You will need to be using Firefox, the Greasemonkey addon and my script. Enjoy

One of the existing map type buttons (Map, Terrain, Satellite, etc) will change to read Bing (OS). Choosing this new map type will display Bing map tiles instead of the Google ones. If you are viewing the UK and are zoomed in far enough (zoom levels 12 to 16 which roughly equates to the top half of the zoom bar) then you will see OS map tiles. If you are viewing an area outside the UK or zoom range you will just see standard Bing map tiles.
The script needs to be configured for each individual application and currently supports :

Re: Bing-map pedometer?
I eventually gave up with the OS map tools, measured the routes in gmap-pedometer and then went to an actual shop and bought actual copies of the maps which I then photocopied and drew on the routes with an actual pen.

Hi, I am not an Orienteerer per se (though I have dabbled in the past) but I have been scouring the net for something that allows me to plot over OS OL Maps for ages. Would like to say a BIG thanks to @LiamCorner for taking the time to do this!!! I refuse to pay £££ for memory map etc when I only want the gps as back for old fashioned map and compass. You have made planning my MTB rides a whole lot easier!
Yours very gratefully,
Dan Stephens, Somerset
