Steve Birkinshaw is having another go at the 24 hour fell record, starting tomorrow morning at 3am. His aim is 78 tops, 90 miles and 40,000 feet of ascent.
Good luck and hope the weather is right this time.
See here for more details; http://team.inov-8.eu/2010/06/lakes-24-hour-record-steve-birkinshaw.html
Plan is to carry a GPS tracker so progress can be followed - something to watch instead of the football.

Or if you are on the fells. Give him a cheer and perhaps carry some water up to the team.

Re: 24 hour fell record
Alas Steve packed in before Honister
Here's his account
I gave up on the way between Wasdale and Honister. I am so disappointed, I tried really hard but in the end it was not good enough.
I was losing bits of time all the way to Wasdale and then big chunks going up Yewbarrow and Red Pike. Once I knew the record was out of reach I lost all motivation, I started to feel all dizzy .
The weather was as good as you could hope for on the day but I got my eating and drinking wrong again! After 5 hours my stomach was really bloated and I felt sick. I was getting sweet stuff down but anything else was just sitting there. Eventually after 12 hours it all came up, around 3 pints of liquid and food. I felt lighter but by then the damage was done. I think the Nuun, energy drinks and gels were too stong and sitting in my stomach not abosrbing. I should have asked for a bottle of water. I had this after Dunmail but I think it was too late.
Thanks for your interest in this. it is a great record with no slack it in for if things go wrong. Thanks also to my support team who did a great job.
Steve
Still a great achievement

It wouldnt be a record worth beating if it wasnt hard to beat. Good effort. Best of luck next time!
