Skotlanti 50 is the cream of Scottish M50s (and a bit older) - a team that many club M21 teams would struggle to match..... now there's a challenge!
PS I'm not old enough yet to play in this team!!

Re: Jukola/Venla
Eight British teams are registered so far for 2010 Jukola/Venla, including three from SYO.
There didn't appear to be Mens Vets, Mens Short or Ad Hoc classes, so we've entered the Open.

Is the pun deliberate?
In Finnish:
50 = viisikymmentä
whisky = viski
viisi... kymmentae

In reply to Spookster's comment on a different thread
there's a couple of interesting diversions on the Thursday worth considering, both near to the Jukola venue:
Firstly, there's the fourth race in this year's World Cup at Tuusala. Should be an interesting spectacle as it's due to consist of a mixed Sprint and Middle distance format, with a map change in the arena and a change of map scale and map standard to boot. More details will follow at http://nordicorienteeringtour.ikk.no/, especially when Bulletin 3 is published (due very soon!).
Secondly, there's a public Middle Distance race after the World Cup race, also at Tuusala, starting at 1700, which a number of the SLOW team plan to enter. The details of this have only recently been published in English and are available at http://kotisivukone.fi/files/tvv.kotisivukone.com/Suunnistus/Kilpailut/WOC_Kansalliset_2010/mc_national_invitation_2010.pdf.
Tuusala is about 40 km from the Jukola Event Centre at Kytäjä.
but we're arriving on Wednesday, for a bit of intensive pre-race training

Re: Jukola/Venla
Looks like there are 10 British teams for Jukola and 7 in Venla registered so far - almost as many as currently entered for the Harvester! Anyone else up for the challenge?

Re: Jukola/Venla
good stuff from those who have entered. if the rumours are that SYO1 are packed full of starlets i expect them to be in the distance but the rest of the GBR teams should have a right old tussle.
Be very afraid of NOPE team banter 1 we have Steven Clelland.

Re: Jukola/Venla
After a gap of one year SLOW is returning with one team in the Jukola and one in the Venla. We won't win (infact, given the age profile of the teams our target will be to make the top half of the field) but that's not the point is it? I'm angling for first leg - should be about the same madness as the start of the National Cross Country Championships.
Looking forward to sitting in the sauna with a beer after my run.

Re: Jukola/Venla
Any girls / ladies out there that would like a competitive run in the Venla relay but don't yet have anything fixed up, my club (Ärla IF) are looking for a runner (possibly 2) for their first team. PM me if you're interested.

Scottish "Auld men's" team also registered.
219 Skotlanti 50 1
1 Martin Dean
2 Roger Coombs
3 Steve Barrett
4 Rob Bloor
5 Graham McIntyre
6 Donald Petrie
7 John Tullie
The big questions are, who is going to win the battle of the Coombs and how long can we stay in front of SYO!

Re: Jukola/Venla
SYO team looks good for a top result.... not sure what best result from a UK team is but 44th in 1993 or 4 by GB rings a bell....
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

SYO have also negotiated a start spot in the front 3 rows, so probably until the clear units?
