Sorry to hi-jack the discussion forum folks. I know this isn't a discussion subject.
I just wanted to get the word out that Moravian's event on 13 June is a "regional/level2/ranking" (take your pick) event and not a bog-standard "district" event as our web site suggests. The info on the site was put up there before the event got upgraded and never got changed.
The event incorporates the Moray & Highland Junior Champs which is an entry-level competition aimed at beginners, originally conceived as a stand-alone event. We decided to combine it with a colour coded event and it just snowballed from there. There's been a big publicity campaign throughout Moray & Inverness areas and as a result we expect a lot of beginner EODs which will really slow up the registration process.
We'd really appreciate it if anyone thinking of coming could pre-enter by 7 June on Fabian4. Full final details including course lengths are on the Moravian site, under the junior champs link at the minute, but we'll get the web site corrected ASAP. Worth the money for a fiver I think you'll find.

Re: Culbin Level 2 Event 13 June
Anything going on locally sporting or otherwise on the Saturday (I see no O events)? I may come up, was planning to do the ESOC long o but am now looking for something more sprog friendly.
We could always visit Laggan wolftrax on the way up I suppose, that would keep him happy.

If you're looking for something sporty and Frog-sprog friendly, how about this?
12 June
ABERLOUR HOUSE JUNIOR HIGHLAND GAMES
Gordonstoun School, Duffus, Nr Elgin
11.00-17.00
The Junior Highland games are especially tailored for children. There are stalls, games
and attractions as well as Highland games competitions for primary schools. All proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
Adult £3
Tel: 01343 837971
Email: mcveanr@gordonstoun.org.uk
http://www.gordonstoun.org.uk
Gordonstoun hosted our recent Moray Schools O Festival and the grounds are really something else! I'm sure I could dig you out an o map of the course if you were headed that way - just send me a pm. If you're after a road run and are prepared to come up early (11am start), I can recommend the Mosstowie School 5-mile road race (just west of Elgin). Mosstowie's one of those rural primaries who seem to get up to everything, and their annual road race is a lovely friendly occasion. Their school team even won the Moray Schools O event.
Mosstowie Midsummer Madness
12 June 2010 (Sat)
5 Mile Road Race
Mosstowie Primary School
Registration from 10.15am
Start 11.00
£4.00

Thanks for the info. I doubt I'd make the road race as I hate early mornings on weekends. I'd fancy a nosy round Gordonstoun though although Duncan's 13 so may be a bit old for it if it's primary schools.

I've seen one from the safety of my car Eeyore, crossing the road at dusk only a few hundred yards from Dyke Village. The local name of the beast is a wangie. Enter at your peril.

Thre's a legend of one being in Blairadam forest where I often run as well, but no-one I know has seen it. Suspect all the felling keeps it well away, plus the sightings were long enough ago that it'll be well dead by now.
Probably more likely to be attacked by a weirdo than a big cat, and much more likely still to be bitten by someone's dog.

Greywolf has been mentoring our course planner Nick Barr (dad of one of Moravian's best juniors) for the last few months. I've not seen the courses yet, but going by the amount of time the pair of them have spent in Culbin and sat around drinking beer afterwards, my guess is that you won't be disappointed. Brown has 31 controls.

I saw a large puma like cat in my local woods many years ago, not so very far from Culbin. It ran within a few yards of me

My son used to be more worried about bears. I remember at the Hermitage he wouldn't let me enter the cave because it looked very like the cave in the book "we're going on a bear hunt" and he used to get very concerned that when I went off orienteering I may get eaten by one in the woods. The string course was regarded as safe from bears.

Sadly we can't make that weekend as I really like Culbin. Amazed how many sane people have seen big cats in Scotland.

I'm a bit scared about Bears now I'm out here! This was taken just down the road from an area I ran at last month!

I'm delighted that at least one orienteer thinks I am sane
