I’m heading to WMOC this year. I’ve never run in Switzerland but the model events are only available in the afternoon before the sprint qualification. The Tour-O-Swiss is probably full, expensive and only sensible if you have a whole week.
Is anybody aware of any other options for training on similar areas in that pert of Switzerland? Even if it were just walking round similar terrain with an O-map?

I think one of the US orienteers pretty much lives on the map - I'll send her a message! Would she like to PM me your e mail then I can pass it on to her if I'm correct?
Will? We've got proper fire now!

This event http://3joursfcomte2010.perso.sfr.fr/ is presenting itself as a World Masters warm-up - although strictly it doesn't meet your specification as it's just over the border in France.

I asked Tour-O-Swiss about going to the "regional event at Riederalp" on 29th July. I received this response.
But it is in the South of Switzerland, about 50km North of Zermatt, about three hours driving from Neuchatel and looks like on open terrain, "Seven mountain- and cable-cars up to Eggishorn (2934 m).". Sounds like a great experience, but probably not very relevant to WMOC.

The events will be announced on the website of Swiss Orienteering as follows: http://www.o-l.ch/cgi-bin/fixtures (29th and 30th of July), but details will be available only shortly before the events.
