I can see this being a significant 'problem' for a lot of people who go to the JK for the social side of things. 'Where's x?' 'oh they're at the other area'. Assembly area socialising is a big part of these events.
Speaking from a totally non-official 'this is a personal point of view' point of view, it looks like it'd be a total nightmare for timing/results, especially if where you're looking at is like the rest of Scotland with respect to internet connectivity!
This is one of the premier events in the UK, I'd hate to see fairness compromised by having people running the same courses on different days.

Andy, timing will be much simpler. There will be no download on Saturday. On Sunday, all you have to do is remove the <>24hour split time in the middle to leave the overall result.
I did hear that everyone will have to upgrade to the special edition 'Tartan' di**er Model 0104 though ......

Re: JK 2012 format
Brilliant idea. Can we have all the interesting people at one venue and all the boring people and dogs at the other?
Didn't know you liked dogs Mrs H

I suspect we will have a solution to this tomorrow.

Interesting thread given the date...
I'm not sure I would want to be seeded based on my current husband's performance. But 2012 is quite a long way off - maybe I could trade him in for a speedier version between now and then

On the subject of family seeding, it is my understanding that you were seeded, based on your current husband's then performance, some 11-16 years ago. Any discussions about present seeding might better be conducted outwith the format of the JK, or any other multi-day event requiring repeated expenditure of energy on orienteering.

Graeme,
Thanks for bravely opening this to discussion. I have no idea about the background to this. However, my view, as a reasonably ordinary older orienteer, is that the JK should be BOTH a keen competition AND a family/club social. It sounds as though having the best of both worlds will not be possible under the radical proposal? I have been to many 6 days and loads of great Scottish areas, all with good and copious parking. Would it not be better to change track now and reserve what I guess are 2 superb new areas for smaller events where the parking would cope?

Graeme,
I suggest that you initiate discussions with Professor Hugh Fellforit, leader of the Scottish government committee on transport coordination, who was quoted in the Scotsman's article on April 1 regarding the new William Wallace airport scheduled to be built near Stirling to replace both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports. On that topic, apparently Mel Gibson has been engaged to voice the elevator announcements.

Each area should have a different electronic punching system - one for SI the other for Emit, then you have to swap over
