Having identified some of the finest areas for the JK in Scotland, we're having trouble getting enough parking and access for the numbers proposed.
So we're going to split the two individual days between the areas, some people will run on area A on Saturday, then area B on Sunday, others will run B on Saturday and A on Sunday.
Do you think it would be better to keep age groups together (e.g M45 run at A on Sat, B on Sun)? Or should we keep clubs together (e.g INT run at A on Sat, B on Sun)?

Wow brave move this one is going to raise loads of issues. To make it fair you have to keep all m45 together so everyone has the same(ish) conditions. There must be another way around it bus people in maybe, it would take the edge off the festival if you had split sites. Shame if they are good areas. Good Luck!!!

Re: JK 2012 format
I think it's a great idea. Customer choice maybe. We could choose which day to run on - great for those who can only make one day. Also we could have great fun distracting our opponents for the following day, saying how easy it was, or talking about that extra hard control 7.
So long as we don't have to eat haggis I don't mind. Variety in formats - bring it on.

So presumably the sprint area has sufficient parking? I would just hold all four days there.

What about families ? Do you want them to come ?
You will need some interesting registration software to decide how to keep 2 adults and 2 kids at the same venue !
Good luck

With bussing, that could have been an option, unfortunately the site is in use over the weekend.Scott wrote:So presumably the sprint area has sufficient parking? I would just hold all four days there.
That's our conundrum between family-friendly clubs-together and competition-friendly agegroup-together.Clive Coles wrote:What about families ?

Brilliant idea. Can we have all the interesting people at one venue and all the boring people and dogs at the other?

You're never going to please everyone with who is where and when, but overall sounds like not too bad an idea.
You could have a system where you pick those you deffinatly don't want to be within 10 miles of you!
(although this may result in student ghetto Orienteering

You could have all the people who want 3 levels in one venue, and all those who want 4 levels in another.
mmm, maybe all the 3/4 level stuff was last year's joke.

Re: JK 2012 format
I took part in an event in Switzerland a few years ago that did exactly this (honestly!) Transport was by chairlift/cable car to the event and there wasn't enough space for everyone in one day.
They did it by age class which was fine for me as I was with a friend in the same class. How families coped I don't know but the Swiss are hard so the 8 year olds probably went by themselves or with some clubmates. Can't remember anyone whingeing and was great to go by chairlift!

Re: JK 2012 format
I'd go for keeping families and clubs together. I'd just trust folk not to discuss the routes with people in different clubs doing the same course.
Keeping areas of neighbouring clubs together might minimise the problem as we don't talk to the softie southerners much anyway!
Seems a sensible way round the problem.

Re: JK 2012 format
The obvious answer is that for complete fairness you should have seeded start lists. All the top half of each class run in area A on Saturday and B on Sunday and the reverse for the bottom half.
If you want to make it more family friendly you could seed by overall family performance rather than individual performance.

And since the ranking list is updated on Thursdays you don't get to know where you will run on Saturday until a couple of days before!
