The current 'thing' to watch out for is the ecard with a number >1,000,000!!!!!

Sounds like a binary card number to me!!!0!!

Seriously, why do we have to watch for them? Is it because they are type 9 cards and will not work in the older (square SI boxes)?

We are using type 9's as hire cards for the elite course at the Midlands next week, but testing has found no issues. But we only have the newer SI boxes in use.

Anything else we should be aware of?

Check all of your download master units as well. This is where you are most likely to come across a non-compatible unit.

They don't... and there are quite a few clubs/regions still using them, as far as I'm aware anyway.

Actually, the best thing to say about this whole thread is that if you have any issue with any timing equipment, take it up with the manufacturer along with supporting evidence.
We all want the systems to function without error as far as possible and the more things like this they fix, the better. Manufacturer > forum thread

If however "bit loss" is seen then is it really fair to blame the competitor?

There doesn't have to be blame. Sport includes an element of luck, and getting disqualified because your e-card didn't function correctly would just be bad luck!

Of course, if the event was using EMIT, all the competitors will have been punching properly, and so will have the appropriate pin-pricks in their back-up cards to prove that they visited the correct controls .

No because if the card resets there is no finish time and with remote download there could be a long delay.

Happened to me at Warwick, sprint. Card was replaced but run could not be.

If this happens with SI, one way of resolving it may be to download the SI card data from the SI units at the relevant controls because they store the time and the SI card number of every visit.

Yes, but that is specifically not allowed under the rules, because of the difficulty and delay that would be caused in declaring the results.

OK if you have cleared the backup memory from the control boxes in preparation for the event otherwise you have very big downloads from each box and the consequent sorting of which data you can use. Nightmare. The control box stores the last 501???? ecard records!!

Anyone with MS Windows (that's most people with computers) have a calculator in accessories. Change view to scientific calculator, enter the decimal number and then switch to binary.
