Now on Winsplits

I guess the link will go on the 0007 Site soon.
Also, having now had the chance to go and run again round one of the controversial parts of the course and at the risk of making Ed want to set fire to me again, you might be interested in this extract from my comments...

In retrospect it is clear that there is a significant discontinuity between the block of forest containing the first controls and the blocks immediately west of it. Alice and I should have picked this up. All we can do is apologise to those of you who were impacted – particularly as for some of you it was a selection race. The selectors were informed of the problem prior to the selection meetings.
Another area of comment I have seen is over control 8 on courses 1 and 3 – 180 Small Depression. Here a number of people felt it was wrong in relation to the veg boundary corner 50m to the south. In fact, it is spot on relative to that. What appears to have happened from observation, and from the elephant tracks we saw later is that many people left the previous control in slightly too easterly a direction, then ran across stream and straight across the south east –north west veg boundary, south and east of the control at a point where it wasn’t so obvious and thus went to the east of the control This was compounded by the fact that the block to the east of the control contains a number of old extraction lanes parallel to the south east – north west veg boundary. One of the more prominent ones bisects the south west – north east veg boundary almost by the control. It looks like some of you misinterpreted this as the veg boundary corner and thus missed the control. The first draft of the map actually showed the direction of run in this block, but ironically we (in consultation with the elite course advisor) asked for this to be removed from the map to avoid any confusion!

And not for the first time in this part of the world (BOC2000 and presumably JK2002 if its the same area). There is more you can do - make sure the mistake is known and get a proper base map next time.
Listen to people who complain and you can get it right next time, ignore them and the same mistakes roll round again and again.
I haven't seen the map, so at the risk of being wrong I'll remind folk that the OS have a habit of hiding accumulated mapping discontinuities in places they dont think it will matter (like in the woods).
They're not alone - I have in my collection a world champs map on which many contours just end; usually by going in to crags and never coming out, or turning in to formlines and then fading away.
