It has been brought to our attention that the BOF online fixtures list is showing this event as EOD, when in fact it is pre-entry (on or by at 6 Feb) via http://www.fabian4.co.uk.
We apologise for this confusion, and are endeavouring to get it changed in BOF fixtures a.s.a.p. but if you are intending to come can you please enter NOW online via http://www.fabian4.co.uk.
Details available here :

Please enter online via http://www.fabian4.co.uk by Saturday 6 February.
Hope to see lots of you there.

The final details say:
"Course 1 is recommended for competent orienteers of most ages. Competitors on this course only will start in pairs and orienteer head to head."
But that's not what the start list shows?
Looking forward to this a lot. Sprint MicrO on a 1:600 scale map, with 16 controls in 540m...

The "head to head" was originally planned when a greater number of entries were expected than have actually been received. I hope the change will not spoil your enjoyment.

It was good. Here's some map extracts. With any luck there'll be Routegadget later.

I also thoroughly enjoyed it as did t'other half, he was going to do MBO or trail quest or something until he was asked to do the SI. He now says he was really pleased he did it and would consider doing some more.
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Really enjoyed the even. I was caught out by the control on the roof in the morning race. Can anyone remind me what the control description was ?

A lot of people were - it was an excellent control site, and leg.
I think the description was "wall, inside south corner". Because of the shape of the building, within about 5m distance were possible locations "wall, inside east corner" and "wall, inside west corner". The east corner would have been on the roof, and the west corner would have been down at ground level.
Unfortunately, despite spotting that it was a potential "trap" control, I mis-interpreted the south corner description as the west corner feature on the ground, and went to the bottom.

Hopefully it'll be on Routegadget, though HOC only have one other RG event so far, so perhaps they are lacking the people with the necessary expertise to get this put up...?

Re: BUOC Chasing Sprint Sat 13 Feb 2010
Getting it loaded to RouteGadget is in hand, though there might be a bit more of a challenge with the Prologue as it is planned on 2 maps at 2 different scales (second part being the micr-O bit) yet the results are as a single course. I guess it will probably require stitching the 2 maps together (but different scales so not sure how that would work) or splitting the Prologue results in 2. Any guidance from anyone who has RG experience of such a situation would be welcome.
I think the control description in question was "paved area, S inside corner", but I don't have them with me so could be wrong. I got to below the N corner before realising my mistake - and I should know the way the planner's mind works better than most.

I'd recommend joining the maps together, splitting up results sounds like a bit of a non-starter really..

I suggest not trying to mess with the X/Y co-ordinates of all the micro-O controls in the course XML files. That means that you need to merge the two maps into one, which has a common scale. Easy enough to do in a graphics programme - just copy the relevant bit of the 1:600 map, and paste it over the relevant bit of the 1:4000 map, with the pasted section scaled down to the correct size (i.e. reduce its dimensions by a factor of 6.666).
It'll probably be quite hard to see the features on the micro-O section now, so you'll need to save the whole map as a JPG at a reasonable resolution (300-400dpi rather than the recommended 150-200dpi).

Re: BUOC Chasing Sprint Sat 13 Feb 2010
I've now received all the maps and data and I'm eager to have a go, but I'm driving to Southampton and back tomorrow so I should probably leave it till later.
Maybe I'm wrong, but since we're going to have 1 RG for the prologue, I think I'm going to need to create a new Condes file combining the two parts.

correct, your course export file needs to have all controls so it can be matched up to the results file.
