Moravian have been looking to repeat our very successful Moray Mix next year, this time with the Culbin (hopefully) day being a SOL.
We wish to repeat the forest urban mix for the second day for which we should be mapping (a) new area(s). Options discussed were to have an urban longish event in one of our bigger towns, or to have a chasing sprint format in 2 different villages.
It would be of interest to know which format would generally be preferred bearing in mind we are looking for a June date with hopefully nice socialising weather. Comments here would be welcome.

Or a chasing sprint on the same map? would save a lot of logistical effort..

Eddie,
my vote is for the longer urban O, mind you if you are offering a deep black again could we do urban on day1?
The logistics of 2 different venues for a chasing sprint would seem to be unecessarily complicated.
You already have a really good format - stick with it

Re: Moray Mix format
Eddie,
I really enjoyed the Moray Mix last year and would really like a repeat.
If you are having a SOL as one of the days then having that on the Sunday might be more acceptable, although I don't have a great preference myself.
I agree with Mad Mike that using 2 different areas for a chasing sprint is making life far too complicated. My preference would be for a longer single urban race (extended Lossie map?), but if a chasing sprint is chosen then use the same venue twice.
I would also say that for socialising an adjacent tea shop is always good!

Oooooooh yes! Count us in. Always like to go back to places I've made mistakes on and measure my improvement!
I vote for a long urban. I like to do it all in one go - it takes me 10 mins to warm up and 2 part races are incompatible with split starts.
Oh and can you avoid my son's birthday weekend please (middle June), now you've whetted my appetite.

Long Urban for me.
I can't think/run quick enough for Sprint.

Eddie
How about trying to find an assembly/parking location in the middle of a map, so you could do the chasing sprint on two different areas of the same town/forest area ?
Mind you I'll need split starts from now on... hmm, urban long O it is for me!
Any chance of us getting onto the sand-dunes behind Findhorn, then using the village/caravan park area too ? I'm sure there's some excellent fun to be had in amongst the old fishing houses!

I'd go for urban and SOL. I don't like the hanging around in sprints, and don't orienteer well under pressure.

Re: Moray Mix format
The Moray Mix was a brilliant weekend - delighted to hear that there'll be another. I'd prefer the urban longish format, and a Culbin event would be great - not worried whether or not it's a SOL, as we'd come anyway.

Re: Moray Mix format
It pains me grievously to agree with Graeme (again) but I do have to pick and choose my events (including SOLs) each year for financial reasons and family commitments. Moray is a bit of a trek for me.
If the weekend is not Level 2 ie a ranking event I simply couldnt justify the cost of travel, particularly if accommodation is needed.
If theres a SOL attached then I'd look at what other SOLS I can get to. Theres always one or two that clash with other family/work commitments sao I try to get to 4 or 5. If the event (or events) on the Saturday were level 2 ranking events then it would definitely shift this up a gear on my priority list vs other SOLS (regardless of how sad that seems to some!)
And if in addition to that you can arrange it for a day that Inverness CT or Ross County are at home to Queen of the South (my team) then you have a deal!
PS How is it that Graeme is the only contributor to have his own smilie?

Andypat.... I'm the Caley supporter and we play you lot on the 20th - revenge for the hammering we got from you earlier this season. I'm running a contour-only training session in Culbin on the 21st so get in touch if you've any plans on coming up.

Re: Moray Mix format
SF - I am actually coming up for the game on the 20th. Original plan was to take in the game, overnight in Aviemore (where some pals are doing some climbing) and take in the Dunkeld event on the Sunday on the way down. Unfortunately events (and a lack of accomm in Aviemore which is booked up for skiing) have overtaken us and our current plan (3 of us coming up in the car) is to do it as a day trip. If you can bear the company of 3 Queens fans for a beer beforehand let me know!

Re: Moray Mix format
Well Andypat your posts prove that its all about priorities more than finances. You find it hard to justify travelling to a double header orienteering weekend involving the best terrain in Britain, but no hesitation in travelling the same distance to watch a football match. Definitely not my priorities but we all have our own.
I am getting a strong message that a standard longish event is a clear favourite.
