Publicity for this will start being circulated this weekend.
The YOS will be open to all full members of British Orienteering, and will be hosted at Yorkshire's best regional events.
The first three events in the YOS are:
YOS1 Feb 28th AIRE Ilkley Moor
YOS2 Mar 28th EBOR Pickering
YOS3 Apr 25th HALO Scardale and Knapton
Further rounds from May onwards will be announced in the near future, but it is hoped to include Ebor's White Rose weekend and Aire's Dales Trophy.
The competition will be held in age classes, with classes allocated to specific courses (see list below). Courses will remain open to all competitors. Competitors will normally enter the course and be automatically counted for the most restricted class for which they are eligible on that course (e.g. M45s won't count for M21S)
In each class, points will be scored 100-96-93-91-90 etc
The number of counting races will be announced once the programme is finalised, but will be a minimum of 4 from an anticipated 7-8 races.
Classes are:
Black M21L
Brown M35L
Short Brown M45L, M21S, W21L, M20-
Blue M55L, M35S, W35L, M16-
Short Blue M45S, W45L, W21S, W20-
Green M65L, M55S, W55L, W35S, M20-S, W16-
Short Green M75, M65S, W65L, W45S, W20-S
VShort Green W75, W55S, W65S
Light Green M14-, W14-
Orange M12-, W12-
Yellow M10-, W10-
Notes
Over-35s are in 10-year age bands.
M18/20 and W18/20 are combined, so L and S are open to all juniors.
For 2010, any M65L who wishes to run Short Blue (the BOF recommended colour for M65-69) will still count for the YOS, their points in the YOS being based on their minutes per kilometre (adjusted for height gain).
In some terrain, where technical difficulty is not greater than Level 4, the VSG may be combined with LG.
Any questions, please post here or PM me.

If one is rigorous about TD, then plenty of championship areas don't really achieve TD5.
There are plenty of good areas in Yorkshire which are almost entirely 'only' TD4 which have provided great events. That is one area where Scotland does score somewhat.

Missed that in the editing, and have changed it. Thanks. (Went for YOS because (a) it includes 'orienteering', and (b) because YSL used to be used for the Yorkshire Schools League).

In the great tradition of many other prestigious competitions in orienteering, It's primarily aimed at amateurs!

The Galoppen has been dormant for a year - it didn't run in 2009 while the new BOF events structure settled down. Not so much a re-branding as a complete overhaul !

Re: Yorkshire Orienteering Superleague
Hmm.... this looks suspiciously like the Scottish Orienteering League, except that it's in Yorkshire and it includes the word "super"
