If you go down the road of countries & not counties then I think it might be Mike Hampton (OD) who wins....
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

Re: CompassSport 99
Surely no-one can beat Jorgen Martensson for countries, although maybe that's a rule change as Nick's rules are only competitive events to count.
For interest's sake I have 23 competition countries (counting GBR as a single country) - the most surprising missing one being France.

Actually I'd reckon on Peo Bengtsson for the Guiness Book but UK wise I think it might be Mike... counting the UK as 4 countries
For me I'd need to add up but it's around 40 countries

Re number of countries orienteered in.
Personally (and selfishly) I think you should only count countries with a "real" orienteering scene, ie those that independently organise at least a few events a year.
There's just over 40 of them depending on a couple of edge cases (and counting UK as 1 not 4). I've orienteered in 35 of them and am trying hard to get the remaining 5-10...sad I know though always fun to orienteer in a new country, in particular if you just pitch up at a random local Sunday event. They always look at you very strangely
The 80+ that Jorgen, Peo and a few others claim include lots of countries where a tour group, like PWT travel, made a map and organised a one-off event. Usually the maps are tiny and the locals are rarely involved. So I'm not sure you should count these really...but again a selfish point of view as I don't have any of them!

Still waiting for my copy to find out what this is all about- I didn't realise that Berkshire was so isolated. Anyone else still feeling excluded?

and at Cademan last night.
For those that prefer orienteering in daylight, there will be another midweek evening opportunty to orienteer at Cademan in April just after the JK.

Pre-entries close on Sunday for the BKO Concorde Chase at Star Posts on the 31st - your chance to tick off Berkshire's CS99 area.
