Does anyone know if EBORs event at Bishopwood is on this weekend?
Going to the EBOR website is says Bishopwood cancelled but clicking on the link
for the event it's showing 'Skipwith 27th Dec -Event Cancelled due to sheet ice.
Please do not approach the event area.'

Looks like it's cancelled to me - I reckon the webmaster made a mistake with the links on their homepage.

Yes, sadly Bishopwood IS Cancelled - due to snow/ice on the access roads...
Sad thing is, with i being milder the next 2 days, and rain on Saturday, It'll probbaly be all gone and washed away by Sunday.

I'd tend to agree with you, but despite warmer temperatures and rain here most of the day, snow on minor roads (where it hasn't been cleared and there isn't much traffic) isn't disappearing that quickly.
Just checked the 5 day forecast, and whilst a lot of snow should go in the heavy rain tonight and tomorrow, it's still not that warm, and will then continue to be freezing overnight higher up for the next few days. Which I'd imagine will leave a bit of base for the forecast heavy snow next Wednesday to settle nicely on

Event definitely on, but snow conditions no longer fantastic. In fact, I shan't be surprised if there's none left tomorrow. Weather forecast is for warm spring sunshine!

Ebor Bishopwood - rescheduled for Sunday 24th January
SYO treeton - rescheduled for Sunday 24th January
Both in Yorkshire on the same day... Is this allowed, or an exception to the 'rules' (or **** the rules) as the original dates were cancelled; and its better than not having the event?
Numbers are bound to be down at both events.

Have Ebor put their change of date past the YHOA secretary? I've received an email from YHOA secretary asking for the SYO event to be broadcast, but no mention of Ebor's.

Ebor website now wrote:The ice on the access tracks in the forest was too hazardous to stage the event on its planned date. It was hoped to reschedule the event one week later than originally planned but the 24th Jan slot is now occupied by the SYO Treeton event (rescheduled from 10 Jan)

Re: Orienteering in the Snow?
Did 4 weeks of snow on the ground stop the programme. No.
Did 5 weeks of no bin men?
No
But today 1cm of snow strategically falling in the evening rush hour oh so nearly put paid to Event 6 of the snow season, as the Aire Valley ground to a halt.
The organiser never made it.
The maps did - 10 minutes after the advertised start.
But there were 5 intrepid competitors waiting.
So what is the smallest event ever?

4" of snow didn't stop the Deeside Night Cup tonight at Sluie Woods. Though the numbers were down - only 26 competitors compared to our usual 30+. Next week its off to runnable and technical Bennachie.

Re: Orienteering in the Snow?
Seabird, the M606 was closed northbound into Bradford this afternoon from 16:00 to about 19:00 due to an accident and this caused the westbound M62 to have very slow traffic in the roadworks from Chainbar back to the M1.
So in addition to the snow, anyone coming from Leeds will have found all the alternative routes into Bradford for Bingley busier than normal.

From Leeds catch the train - 20 mins. Start 100m from Bingley Station.
By car 40 mins with no snow and no rush hour. Should have mentioned that in the directions

I seem to remember a number of years ago a Saturday morning event where I went along to help the organiser/planner with registration and ran a course as "no-one has arrived yet I'll get some exercise" and found I was the only one to turn up at all!
(and of course as a helper I didn't pay).
I think we removed it from the records.........(and stopped doing Saturday morning events for a while)
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: Orienteering in the Snow?
Well I thought I'd missed my chance, but finally managed to do some ski-o at the MADO event on Malvern Common today. Definitely not the most efficient way round the course, given numerous road crossings and gates I had to take skis off for, along with negotiating my way round brambles etc. - snow not really deep enough to slow down running that much. Good fun though, and I'm definitely glad I took my skis out rather than running
