2010 which event are you most looking forward to?

Okay folks - time to lighten up a bit. Now that I'm beginning to believe that a new ice age is not upon us I'm looking at the fixtures list and all of a sudden I'm excited.

Not only have we got all those delicious urban races to look forward to but i've just spotted what might be a little gem.

The plucky SW are only giving themselves a few weeks to recover from the JK to put on the Tamar Triple - and it looks like all 3 days are at Penhale Sands If this is the case it has the makings of a great holiday event and like one of my other perennial favourites The White Rose, will hopefully have the attraction of being able to camp up over the Bank Holiday weekend and not budge far until it's over, something that is definitely not going to happen at the JK! In fact if I had to make a choice between the JK and the Tamar..........

So what events are you most looking forward to in 2010?

Domestically, the urban series (both Nopesport and Yorkshire Leagues), which look better than ever. London in particular has been a real highlight over the past couple of years, but I'm also looking forward to seeing how my first street map stands up under competition at Otley in October (I'm really enjoying the mapping!).

In terrain, the World Masters (first time in the school holidays for years, and great looking areas too); the British on Cannock (always a wonderful place to run); the Scottish doubleheader in March may drag us away from the Nopesport League race; the British Middle-Sprint Champs weekend looks very interesting.

The Tamar Triple does look tempting even from this distance, especially as looks increasingly likely we won't do the JK, but I'd hate to miss York!

OOH. Tamar Triple sounds good - JK at Penhale was 1 of my 2 most favourite events ever (the other was BOC in Ireland). Have to wait to next year for JK in Ireland tho.

Also looking forward to the Ed street sprint which I always enjoy.

Having enjoyed the OO Cup in karst terrain last year, I'm looking forward to heading back to Slovenia for the event again, especially as this year it's in the mountains.

Domestically, there's loads of good looking events on but I'm kind of restricted by being a supportive wife & mother One day I'll make it to Edinburgh, I'll get a run somewhere at JK (preferably Braunton Burrows), Tamar Triple looks good, it's a shame I'll struggle to get a run at BOC, & I'm really excited about the Maize Maze again this year - it hasn't made it onto the fixtures list yet (because we don't have a date sorted), & I have no idea what the map's going to look like, but I had so much fun putting it together last year

The JK because I've never been to it before, never been to Devon before either. We're extending it to a weeks holiday so get to do some cycling + exploring too. ALso get to stay in a cottage not camping (that's a rare experience in my family )

Would like to get to the White Rose as well (never done that either and fancy the night O and MTB O as added extras) - holidays permitting - but have been to Yorkshire lots of times and that will be camping .

I am looking forward to the JK this year. Its always a really exciting event and this year I think it will be OFF THE HOOK!

Esp the classic and relay races.

After 22 years of trying, I think I've finally persuaded my non-O other half that the O-Ringen would make a great holiday. "There's no Scottish 6 days this year, is there?" - she asked untrustingly!

Other than that - must enter Big Moor (today) If it's neighbour Rawsley Moor is any indication of what it's like - it will be a good new area, close(ish) to home.

And there is vague talk of a trip to either Venice or Istanbul!

I just recently put a post on our club website, tempting people with a few choices of multi-day events - for me Im really looking forward to WMOC (never been to Switzerland, and start of a 4 week holiday) and the Lakes (not having Orienteered there before, but love the scenery and the beer!)

Compared to last year, this years JK looks pretty compact, stop for the sprint en-route, camping in Braunton so adjacent for Sun/Mon, and a shortish drive for Cookworthy on the Sat.

No no Scottish this year thankfully. I'd love to do the Venice Sprint but will probably have to leave it until I don't take as much time off in School holidays as it seems a bit of a waste just going for a weekend.

Multi day event weekends have to be the winners for me.

March 6/7 Scottish Sprint champs, British Night champs AND an event at Gullane

Later in March middle distance at Touch (class) and SOL at Trossachs (class) are far enough to look ahead at the moment.

Do not underestimate the A386. Seriously.

EDIT: actually, Google Maps reckons you can do the whole drive on B-roads instead. This has made me indescribably happy.

- The Trossachs - a true 'toughie' that needs to be experienced.

- The JK days on Braunton Burrows - again, an area that I've heard much about, but not yet had the chance to run on.

- The British Middles in the Lakes should be top-notch.

- World Champs selection races on Ardnaskie/Creag Mhic look highly tempting.

- Hope to be out at Jukola again this year, amongst plenty of British teams this year given the proximity to Helsinki.

- Warwick town race again after a 3-year break

- And is there likely to be a Purple Thistle this year?
