Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: Orienteering in the Snow?
It's not possible to recognise the tune
I've just been down the garden and had a ritualistic bonfire of Christmas cardboard (they won't recycle it round here) and mistletoe in the hope of appeasing the gods
The ambient depth of snow in various sheltered spots in the garden is 27 cm - I'm not quite sure what that is in old money but I can assure you it is over the top of my wellingtons.
I made some patterns in the snow like Simon Beck said he did with his snow shows - mine weren't geometric patterns though they were four letter words

Re: Orienteering in the Snow?
Sorry Mrs H - site information answerphone today had "Road conditions are treacherous in Malvern, don't set out for work by car", so I didn't even make it to somewhere I could ski up the hill with supplies (wish I was actually healthy enough to contemplate skiing to work).

As it happens, the Saxons Kent Night Cup event at Challock Forest is on tomorrow evening and we still have plenty of the white stuff down here in Kent. Link below.

Re: Orienteering in the Snow?
Deeside Night League went ahead laast night in the coastal dunes of Balmedie. True ultra-technical orienteering but sadly no snow to be seen. Mind you I twice jumped water only to land on a sheet of floating ice rather than the land I was expecting -very cold on the feet.
Still loads of snow in Moray, but thawing steadily.

AIRE Night League event went ahead in Lister Park, Bradford last night. The old snow was pleasantly crunchy with a light covering of fresh snow to aid the preservation of verticality.
Road conditions in our neck of West Yorkshire, resulting in few buses running, inevitably had an impact on turnout.

Eddie - I saw one patch of snow at the north end (nearer the north pole therefore colder?) - it was at least 30cm by 15cm......
The iceshelf from 16-17 was exciting, esp hitting it first and breaking a channel. especially as it was immediately after the Saharan dune system complete with blowing face blasting sand.

Re: Orienteering in the Snow?
I think things are showing signs of improvement round here. The tune is either The Can-can (Offenbach) or the theme from Dad's Army. I settled on the Dan Brown and was amply rewarded by a line in chapter 109, page 400: " Sh*t," he whispered,"It's Hartmann!" the cake is finished and we've started on the chocolates.
It's stopped snowing and the sun is out, school is open (mind you we can't drive down the road) the postman has got through and there are hopes of a bin emptying tomorrow (the second in 4 weeks).
so the bonfire and ritual snow writing appears to have worked
whether enough to shift the several feet deep drifts on the Worcestershire Beacon in time for next week's CSC round remains to be seen

5pm and our bin lorry miraculously appeared. Wouldn't have made it up the slope before then. done the household bins; now we have to wait for a different lorry to do the recycling bin.

Re: Orienteering in the Snow?
Just put ours out, no hill involved that has been gritted just a 50 m section with a slight climb but my guess it the bin lorry wont collect the recycling they might come on foot for the black bags. I just want the washing machine repair man to get the parts and be able to get here otherwise it'll be another Sat sat in the laundrette.

Re: Orienteering in the Snow?
Why has orienteering in the snow being hijacked by whingers about bin collection or not. Start your own thread - and preferably on your local council website rather than an orienteering one.
