I'm most disappointed that Compasssport, of all magazines, would lose an "s" from Kinrossshire and Invernessshire.
Nick should resign his editorship at once, Suse would never have made such an error in her editoressship.
PS: Next chance to bag - Jan 31st JOK Chasing Sprint (best area in Midlothian).

...and probably the only local authority area to be 100%* mapped for orienteering - unless you count OOM in which case the whole of the UK is on an "orienteering" map.
I made a (now rather old) map of all orienteering maps in the UK.
*Well, technically, there's two small sections of the City of London that haven't appeared on either of the City of London maps so far.

... and there's also Scilly, although there doesn't seem much danger of any maps being made there in the immediate future.

Re: CompassSport 99
I can only extend my sincere apologies Graeme on the SSS issue!
But if you are looking for mistakes in the mag, I know where there are more
I think this is an excellent idea/initiative and Dave Nevell has put in days of work to get it into the format it is (and Matt Evans has done the graphics - both HOC).
It is, at the end of the day, a bit of fun and aimed at increasing participation in a way! It was reliant on contributions from clubs. In Saxons, we mailed it around our e-mail address list, each voted our top 3, and the votes were collected and counted and Blean won. Other clubs took lots of e-mailing to get any sort of response and I am sure some Club Secretaries just mailed back their favorite without any further consultation. Some only discussed it at Committee level and not wider in the club.
So of course it is not perfect. Dave could have split up the counties differently, we could have ignored what clubs said because 'We think we know better', but we didnt - and you have what you have.
It is the nopesport way to pick at minor bits and bobs - so be it if it makes you happy - but I hope you can all just have some fun with it!
Looks like Eddie could be the man who will win the 'Most bagged so far' prize - we'll see who else comes forward...
In the meantime, get bagging!
(Clubs might like to advertise (Like SeanC/ Graeme) that an event is a CompassSport99 area!)
Families might well like to photocopy their A4 baggers card for all their family members, however, Ultrasport will have spares - I think selling for 50p - £1 - tbc - and I will have spares too - till they run out.
Many thanks to our 4 sponsors who have paid for the printing - EMIT, Fabian4, BML & Ultrasport.

Re: CompassSport 99
As an aside - does anybody know what the N/S/E/W-most mapped areas in Great Britain and surrounding islands (but excluding NI) are? I'd guess Hayle Towans for the westernmost (at least until I finish mapping St Ives), and maybe also the southernmost? No clue about the easternmost or northernmost, though. [Edit: looking at AH's map, it seems that Godolphin is mapped, so I suspect that is actually the southernmost.]
Also the highest and lowest (is Holme Fen mapped?)?

Am not aware of anywhere on Orkney or Shetland that's mapped and the northernmost on the mainland is not Culag as per CS but Dunnet as mentioned earlier in this thread: you can download the map from http://www.dunnetforest.org/
The westernmost that's regularly used is probably Lochmaddy, North Uist where the Uist Outdoor Centre has a (non-ISOM) map of the local area and a permanent course, which gets used by schools & for mountain craft training etc

Re: CompassSport 99
I suspect the inclusion of Lendrick Muir might be part of a "cunning plan" by "someone" to get us to extend the map so we could have a club event there.
I forsesee committee discussions along the lines of "we have to extend the map, it's in the compassSport99"!

57 of the 82 counties have been to the nominated area.
Eddie, are you claiming 82 of the counties but only 57 of the areas (fewer than Mikey) - or are you claiming 82 of the areas (which surely would make you clear leader)?
Why did I do that...

Re: CompassSport 99
Eastmost - Gunton Denes - on the A12 going north out of Lowestoft, originally surveyed by Stirling Surveys for Suffolk County Council Education Dept. Its not really a current map (it was updated by Bill Mclean (Suffolk OC ) in 1992) and last used yonks ago. The eastmost of current maps is Normanston Park, Lowestoft (again a schools project) which I completed 2 weeks ago. Suffolk also has the eastmost club project -Kenton & Goose Hills, Leiston - about 500m east of Norfolk OCs Waveney Forest. Both are under threat. K&GH from Sizewell C and Waveney from gravel extractors.

Ay Jon X it would seem that Mikey has run on more of the named areas than me - has he done more counties?

I can only claim 77 counties.
All but the Isle of Wight in England.
10/13 in Wales, but I'm light on the central/eastern Scotland region (Scotland 21/32).
None in Northern Ireland.
Most recent 'named area' orienteered on - Cambridgeshire Coe Fen 2009.
Longest gap - Peebleshire Elibank 1976.
