Yes that's pretty much what I did too - when I saw the control wasn't on the south side I simply assumed it was me in the wrong place not the control missing . I did think that the circles on this and the one on the uncrossable fence in the prologue were very closely centred on the feature - It's usually possible to tell by looking carefully which side of the feature the circle is centred on but not in these cases - which is why I checked the control description on the latter - but not the former which wasn't too much of an issue as I had to pass the bottom for the wall anyway.

On reflection I actually think it was a stunning control site as once you saw it wasn't where you thought it was going to be it was a real devil to get to

The photo is interesting - I now see why it caused problems.

I was a bit unsure where to go but the presence of a photographer made me confident that the control must be up the steps.
