No no no! It was a prize for the most esoteric and original orienteering related excuse. Mr H. once won it for the famous black panther encounter at Founhope but then again young Neville also won it for missing a medal ceremony at the JK because he was near the front of the Wilf's queue at the time

Just returned from the Sheffield races... shame about the drizzle!
Two great, fast 'Chases' around the city, very interesting on a Saturday Afternoon.
Although I prefer, the Longer, City races, and not the Chase format, the courses were very well planned.
A shame about the 'missing' controls on the Prologue - I understand times were adjusted?
A coupl of controls made sure you read the descriptions very carefully - I knew it would be the other side of the fence so why didnt I run there in the first place??

Be good to see the routegadget for the main races, and I am sure i didnt use the right staircases for all legs around the cinema... bu thoroughly enjoyable.

We do things properly in Sheffield. Its a sprint map and made to internation sprint specs. Therefore you get a sprint race.

VERY provisional results are online here. I've only just got home, and haven't checked the DSQs yet, so people may get re-instated who are presently disqualified.

Two controls in the Prologue were removed, and therefore all legs into and away from those two have been removed from courses.

In the Chase one control (at least) was difficult to punch, so anyone missing that is not disqualified. A lot of people mis-punched, but in most cases that's correct - they were in the wrong place or didn't find the control.

Routegadget will be up, perhaps tomorrow, else Monday.

Thanks to everyone concerned today for a really enjoyable event. Assembly was a great location. On a personal note, having ageing eyesight I could have done with a stronger overprint for the controls (especially in the afternoon event in the rain). I believe I made the same comment about the overprint colour at the Cliffhanger in the summer.

Thankyou to everyone involved in today's very enjoyable finale to the NOPE league. I must admit to not enjoying the Chasing Sprint format as much as a straightforward run, particularly as this year our little team of competitors (including Mrs H and Mrs Awk) have been retiring to local hostelries 'apres run' to swap course stories (and occasionally husbands have been invited along as well). However it was a fitting end to an excellent year of urban running and I am already booked in for Edinburgh.
ps I suppose I have to send congratulations to Mesdames H and Awk for truly thrashing me today - well done ladies!

I'm not the greatest fan of chasing sprints, preferring either the conventional sprint qualification format or a longer race (middle/classic) but.......
I would hate to see all the urban races becoming a homogenous format. One thing that the advent of the urban scene has taught me is that the sport definitely needs greater variety. The chase has its own challenges, to which I singularly failed to rise in the final, so look forward to improving on them in time for next year (I hope!).

More power to ShUOC's elbow for using the chasing format, and I hope they stick with it. In the meantime, thank you for a great event; I think I now definitely need to get up to the Edinburgh weekend, and get some chasing practice in on the Sunday!

I think that the double sprint format worked well and really enjoyed the races.
Having two races did allow for socialising in between, ok perhaps not the pub, but at least everyone was around.
The short races and the chase all help pile on the pressure. I think that's good, even though I messed up the two most trickiest controls on my chase.

A downside of the format is the extra work for the organisers. Having download go down and having to take out splits is always a pain, but more so when you need to get the correct start times published for the chase. I can imagine that there was a lot of frantic activity behind the scenes and well done for pulling it all together.

Great map, area and courses. The rain may have made it slippery and slowed things down a bit- but it was clearly fast enough!

Not that there's anything wrong with a long urban race. What you really need is a bit of both, maybe on the same weekend.
