Edinburgh University and JOK are proud to present a weekend of great orienteering to be held in the city centre of Edinburgh in January next year.
The format will be:
Saturday - Edinburgh City Race - There are three courses on offer, Long, Short and Childrens' (about 7km, 4-5km and 2km respectively). The long and short courses will provide competitors with a technical challenge as well as providing the experience of competing in Edinburgh's historic streets. With large portions of newly mapped urban terrain care of Graeme Ackland, it should prove to be a great street-o! In addition, there shall be a celeidh in the evening in celebration of Robert Burns.
Sunday - JOK chasing sprints - Organised by JOK on Arthur's seat, more details to follow.
Both events are in the city centre so there is no need for a car if you are travelling from further away. Easyjet flights are cheap and regular to Edinburgh airport with frequent buses to the city centre. Make it into a weekend break!
Entries are now open at http://www.oentries.com
More details can be found at http://orienteering.eusu.ed.ac.uk/bigweekend

Hope to see you there!

Re: EDINBURGH WEEKEND 30th/31st JANUARY 2010
Question of the moment seems to be Edinburgh or Sheffield. As I see it, it looks to be a choice between this:

and this:

I know which way I'll be heading come the end of January! NORTH of the border

and this:

I know which way I'll be heading come the end of January! NORTH of the border

you'd be surprised (or maybe not surprised at all!) to know that even though that is fiction, it's quite close to the truth!

Train tickets for this weekend have just gone on sale.
Please can someone advise what the range of start times will be on each day.

Hey - thats not a fair comparison! Apart from anything else I think you'll find Bobby Carlyle is a 'weegie' and therefore his image is rightfully the property of Clyde and Stag jointly. You can fight it out between the ginger headed guy and the beardy if you like!

Start times will probably be similar to this years, 11-3ish on saturday. Then for sunday i'm not too sure but the chase will probably be early afternoon 1-2pmish? best to check with JOK.

I would have thought the chase would have been earlier to allow time for people travelling to get home, hope so anyway as more will come if it's earlier!

£24 return
. Thanks mike.
I won't be arriving until 1.13pm, so I hope the start block does extend until 2.30pm at least...

Thanks, looks like I'll be on an early start then!
Will there be a cheap Saturday/Sunday entry combo, like last years? Just noticed that this year's Saturday entry is £10 (quite an increase from last year's £5) so if there is a cheap combo deal going, I would be interested in that!

JOK at present are yet to open their entries and may well use an alternate entry system to oentries. A few weeks ago we made the decision to open ours using oentries separately to JOK and so unfortunately we haven't sorted out a discounted entry for both days.
I'm confident that the urban racing and chasing sprint will be worth the money though

What you could do for discounted weekend entry is then:
Both JOK & EUOC make an equal donation per person (who would normally qualify for the 'weekend offer') to the Squad Support Fund....
Everyone then wins...

The BOF fixture list says that the assembly will be at the Commonwealth Pool again - is that right?

No. It will be at the north side of Arthur's Seat next to Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament. The Commonwealth pool is currently a building site!
It is 10 minutes walk from the Waverly Station and centre of town.
Details will be put on our website in due course....
