The entry cost for WMOC 2010 until 31st October 2009 is 220 SF (£132 according to FT.com). On 1st November it rises to 270 SF (£162). Switzerland is an expensive country, plus the weakness of the pound has done horrible things to foreign costs. It might get better, but not enough to make 270 francs less than £132. Credit card fees on top of these costs unless you have foreign-fee-free credit card (e.g. Nationwide or Post Office).
The price includes “all model event and training maps, entry fee for Sprint and Long distance Championships, official transport, souvenir prize and a free public transport pass in the Canton de Neuchâtel during the week”.
“The organisers will arrange bus transport from the Event Centre and from Official parking. Official parking pass will be required to access to parking areas. Due to limited parking areas on competition sites, use of private cars to travel to
competitions will be forbidden.”. So theoretically you could save the cost of a car hire for the week if you are not taking your own.

I couldn’t find any earlier mention of this on Nopesport; apologies if I’ve missed it.

On balance with absolutely no need to hire a car and with the free public transport through the whole canton thie event is no expensive fo WMOC and is infinitely better value than pouring money into the inefficient, beaurocratic money grabbing World Masters Games this year with nothing in return.

nothing in return??
Free transport in Sydney for a week was a decent perk, and there was the traditional free rucsac too ...

Free travel in Sydney for the week when for most of it we were hundreds of miles away
And the rucksack - well the last 2 fell apart within months and this one seems more poorly made still - time will tell I guess.
Inceidentally "free2 is a doubtful term - what else am I paying for - I note that even you fail to come up with any other benefit.

Re: Swiss WMOC 2010 entry cost rises 1st Nov
Those who are thinking of going might be interested in this from Marc Lauenstein's AttackPoint log. I like the comment about Swiss O-Week!
Today we had a big meeting for the WMOC 2010. It was impressive to see how far they already are in the preparations. All courses are already planed, the transport logistics are set, the opening and closing ceremony hours are decided and even the menus and souvenir T-shirts (they will be 10 euros a piece!) are decided, plus there will be wmoc chocolate:-)
For the 2 city sprints they will close Neuchâtel and La-Chaux-de-Fonds to all traffic! Actually the opening ceremony will be on the main street of La-Chaux-de-Fonds! They are even going to celebrate the national holiday 1 day earlier so that it coincides with the opening ceremony.
As the competition are in the french part of Switzerland, the atmosphere will be quite different to this years Swiss O week... it will be a week with more smiles and also cheaper.
For the first time, I saw all the new maps they made for the event. It is going to be great!! (that's all I'm allowed to say)

Entries now up at 2035.
I think they could well get to 4000. Any medals are going to be very well earnt!
The Swiss are normally very well organised and put on a good show. I am sure this will be no exception!
