Which format do you prefer?
Re the Harden Moor thread. You have the choice of all these events on the same day. Which one would you go to.

Sunday 15th November. PS you're not allowed to go to two events.

Re: Which format do you prefer?
Why not, could probably get away with going to the local event first, then driving to the middle, then driving to the night...

For the purposes of the poll, assume that your wife/husband/girlfriend/partner/flatmate/parents have threatened to throw you into the street if you spend all day feeding your Orienteering addiction and not doing your share of the housework.

Local scene all the way (if the terrain is nice in your local area. If it isnt you are silly, move house.) You can run to the event instead of driving 5 minutes, run the blue and be relaxing / in the pub before you have started the classic race, 1 hours drive away.

Local if just me, partly convenieince, partly supporting the club. Son is very into street racing at the moment ( not that he's done that many but he tends to do better at them than classic events in dense forests) so if he's with me we'd head to an Edinburgh street event, which i'd probably prefer to do anyway but club loyalty would have me go to the club event if i can't use him as an excuse.

Re: Which format do you prefer?
I think my decision would be heavily influenced by the scarcity of some types of event - I'd be likely to go to the campus sprint because those happen so rarely, whereas (in south-east/central England) there will inevitably be another classic forest event (or two) within one hour's drive that I can go to next weekend instead.

Re: Which format do you prefer?
It's not a very likely scenario in Scotland that you would have all these events on the same day. If there's a SOL there's usually nothing else on. Similarly you wouldn't have a street and a sprint event near each other on the same day. If you have a choice of 2 events within an hours drive it's good, usually we try not to overlap too much so it's not feast or famine.

Where is the "Drive 2.5hrs and get in a 5hr weekend of technique training on the ROMP maps from the national o-centre" option?

Actually I'm not sure I understand what a middle distance event is. Events in our area are usually classicish distance or longOs if cross country orienteering.

You're not reading my signature.
Edinburgh's other castle: Craigmillar Dec.13th. Complex contour detail, brand new urban extension. Choose from parkland yellow, IOF-style middle, urban green-lite or the whole forest-urban shebang.
The middle and urban are about the same length - I'll report back as to what people went for.
Coming soon

Re: Which format do you prefer?
On Sunday we had the choice of NOC 'District' at Byron's walk* and SYO 'local' at Sandallbeat woods, both about 25miles from central Sheffield. We chose to take the club to Sandallbeat, mainly to support SYO (and the lack of hills wouldn't put any new comers off too much!)
This is the only event 'clash' I've come across in the last 18months.
As for 15th November, Eyam Moor is much more convenient for us
