Andy did you get caught out on Blue 10?
Control 110 associated with knolls at top of Rentrant, versus reentrant control 109. within the same control circle?
Looking forward to seeing it on routegadget cos I'd appreciate some explanation. ( mispunched and duff run anyway.)

Re: Tinto Twin
A good weekend. Friday's night event was excellent, although a couple of times I did silly things and ended up in dense forest, with my wig stuck in the trees and only the owls for company.
Son had a great time.
Today was very wet but my orienteering was better. Very little control overlap in my courses, but the area looked so different in daylight that it seemed a different area anyway, the only bits I remembered were the board walks.

Could these controls have been any closer?
Were they an amoeba in a state of binary fission?
If so could those of us with earlier starts get some discretion as they would have become distinct entities throughout the competition giving late starters a distinct advantage?

Yes indeed - No 10 on the blue. HAve to admit I had a bit of a laugh when I saw it was you (KH I assume?) who also mispunched since you were the person I was trying to beat in the M40S class to get 3rd! I guess we were both trying too hard. I've commented on the control positioning in the planning guidelines thread - suffice to say I dont think it complied!
However at the end of the day I didnt check the number so have to learn from that mistake. Enjoyed the exercise even though it was wet and cold - although am glad I am tall as saw one or two shorter people having a bit of trouble with the barbed wire crossing points. I escaped with one rip to my leggings and a small cut (ironically caused by getting my leg tangles up in one of the tapes marking the crossing point!) but found at least one person of shorter stature struggling to get over.

Re: Tinto Twin
Andy, you are correct on all counts. Didn't know I was in anyones sights, makes me feel important. Shucks.
I'll even forgive you for laughing at my misfortune. You should see my route on the long leg though, that will have you in hysterics.
Agreed, doesn't make any difference at the end of the day, except for when I get round to planning things myself.

Re: Tinto Twin
Congratulations on your SOL podium position campervan. Well deserved. I'll not be laughing at your route on the long leg on account of ending up in the car park on my way to the last control!
I'll certainly be checking numbers more carefully from now on. I have to admit I'd a really good controller the last time I planned anything (Ian Turner) and he helped me avoid making a similar mistake with two close controls. Who'd be a controller.....

Re: Tinto Twin
I can't agree with Graeme about the area - I thought it was reasonably interesting. The dark green was far faster than I would have expected (although the visibility was low) so the routes are more interesting than an uninformed look at the map would suggest.
Anyway as a rare visitor to the central belt, if the area was as bad as you suggest I'd not be worried about the average area.
I fully concur about the universal cheerfulness of all the helpers I met - maybe difficult to achieve as the reaction from the competitors at download was far less so - it seemed that I was the only person there that had enjoyed it.
Finally imagine the loss TINTO would have made had it been entry on the day only - how many would have bothered to run?

Re: Tinto Twin
I think we'd have still gone with it being a nearby SOL, plus son needed a 4th event, plus part of the twin.
If we'd had to travel far don't think I'd have bothered going even if prepaid on the Sunday.

It was dry when we left the Inverness. Dark, but dry.
Eddie, sorry for being such a grump at download tent, perhaps the mispunch was just sinking through.

Don't get me wrong - I didn't think anyone was grumpy, it was just that everyone was saying they hadn't enjoyed it. No-one was complaining or hassling the organisers - it was just that they seemed in some perverse way to be actually enjoying the conditions.

Re: Tinto Twin
110/109 were far too close, I had the lower one and my line took me right over the one I didn't have and I almost punched it, even looked like a re-entrant it was in.
And, what the hell is a 'crag bend', all you need to know for a crag is whether it's at the crag foot or on top of it, not if it's a bend or not.
And then running for 3 or 4km around the tracks to visit the same controls as Saturday night, yay.
edit:
ummm....

I enjoyed both events, and I thought Witch Craig Wood was an interesting wee area. Thanks to TINTO for another good weekend.
