This is getting ridiculous ... I have had my tetanous injection but dont have proof of when it was !!
I may as well ask the GP for full copy of my medical records - which i am entitled to, and take them along to the event !!!
The form they provide to be signed by a GP is so basic, it is no better than a common disclaimer
Oh well - let's wait for BOF to introduce this system as well - great

Re: IOF Licence / Medical Certificate
I used to work in a travel clinic, where we issued booklets with all vaccines given, including the internationally recognised Yellow Fever certificate (must be dated correctly, stamped with clinic details etc) - I reckon one of those would pass as an official record of vaccines. I now keep mine up to date (apart from Yellow fever, which can only be done officially), as I've had vaccines at many locations, including GP, travel clinic, occupational health etc. I also include any blood test antibody results (photocopied certificates) in the booklet. However, I know my GP-held medical records are incomplete, particularly regarding which childhood infections I had, as mum was a health visitor, so didn't take us to GP when we had chicken pox etc.

To reiterate (and defend my fellow contrymen), it has nothing to do with FFCO or IOF, it's just a rule of the French sport ministry

Latest "clarification" from France:
"You need to know if all your vaccinations are updated. Some vaccines (I do not know which) are required for the issuance of medical certificate. In France, we have a health record which are filled all this information."
WTF?

Re: IOF Licence / Medical Certificate
If it's any help guys (and you must know what I think about the whole thing) I checked up on the elder Miss H's vaccinations prior to her departure to college (
) as they were asking for new students to check they had both mumps and men c up to date - and the receptionist produced a very speedy print out showing everything she had had done - both at the GP and School, which showed she was up to date and she took it with her. I don't know if that is general practice in general practice ( or should one of those be practise?)

Brick wall & Banging head spring to mind ...
Isnt it strange that the event following this one in France hasnt asked for any medical certificate. Surely if this is common across all sports in France it would make sense for a standard form to be produced and completed.
How long would that last?... do we need to obtain a new one every event, every 6 months, every year?
Oh well .... C'est la vie !!!

There is pretty much a standard wording. My running club has a bilingual version on its website for people to print off and take to their doctor to sign:

You need to obtain a new one every year, as it has to be dated within a year of the competition.

Re: IOF Licence / Medical Certificate
It's a useful form - can someone get it amended to include orienteering and get it stored somewhere accessible - like the BOF website? you could probably leave it at the GP reception and pick it up later like a repeat prescription.

Their response was
"You'll also be able to justify some vaccines. Take your health record."![]()
Am guessing that "justify" = "demonstrate that you have had", but anyone got a definitive view of which vaccines, and what they mean by "health record"?
Blue tongue, scrapie and BSE maybe?
Orienteering - its no walk in the park

Re: IOF Licence / Medical Certificate
The vaccinations bit was in a paragraph saying that the medical certificate could be obtained in France at appointment with a specific doctor local to the event.
I read it as meaning that doctor would require vaccination certificates before he would issue the certificate. I didn't read it as meaning that people who obtained the certificate from their UK GP would need to produce vaccination certificates in France.
Am I wrong?

That's how I read it to. I'm just emailing a certificate to them (after wasting the doctor's time) and assuming I will become a 'timed' competitor.

Re: IOF Licence / Medical Certificate
I went to my GP yesterday. He asked:"So what is Orienteering then...". I wasn't sure whether to talk about an extreme adventure sport (which might have raised more awkward questions) or play down the level of fitness needed for a 'kind of treasure hunt'. In the end I just said it was running with a map and he duly signed and stamped the certificate after taking my blood pressure and asking if I smoked - all done in 5 minutes with no charge.
So I would recommend going to your GP before you go, rather than risk a French GP who might know more about the sport!
Do they have ticks in Provence?
