In advance of the maize maze event we have been trying to get the map to be as good as it can be, but have had differing opinions about legibility, particularly the contrast between the colours.
Essentially there are only three colours on the map - for impenetrable maize, footpaths and the course overprint.
Following ISSOM would give the dark green for maize and yellow for the ways through. An alternative would be the 'forbidden access' for the maize. Both of these have yellow in the colour so the contrast could be better. The third alternative, but not in line with ISSOM, is to use a gray tone for the maze. This may give a better picture overall.

Re: Maize Maze colours
I'm not keen on Dark Green Maize, as it makes the purple too hard to see.
For me, either Grey Maize or Forbidden Access Maize would be OK, but the purple over green may give problems on the Forbidden Access Maize to anyone who is red/green colourblind.
Anyone out there who suffers from this care to comment ?

Re: Maize Maze colours
One of our members was completely unable to tell the difference on the bottom of the 3 samples in our trial event - he had to navigate his way between the narrow black lines, which sometimes got him a bit confused!
He has had a look at the map with both a grey background and a light green slow-run background, both of which he could see clearly and would be happy with.

Re: Maize Maze colours
Personally I find the 3rd one easiest, but the 2nd one is ok too. The top one is certainly too dark, making the course markings hard to see.

Re: Maize Maze colours
I'm colourblind and can barely see the purple on the dark green. The gray is easily the best for me.

Ah, another event at which competitors can pre-select which map they prefer! (but this time it's a good idea

And it looks like I need to find a way to dim my headlight....
