It was you, me and Ben Akers in the car.
I've never forgiven Craney.

On the finish line collecting maps and Emit cards from competitors as they finished.
I always remember chasing after Yvette to retrieve the map before she was surrounded.
She certainly ran through the finish unlike the Swedes that colapsed in a heap as soon as they crossed the line.

I seem to remember a certain brother of mine carrying in the medals/flowers for the presentation and then, as the folk presenting them were leaving the podium, him turning to Yvette, giving her a wee hug and planting a smacker on her cheek, doing what just about everyone else in the field wanted to do at that moment. Classic!

getting 'paid' to deliver the nightmare that was Y2K+Euro+PMO+Metricweights+two acquisitions.
When I finally heard the result it was fantastic to see that somebody who had so shone as a youngster at last got the formal recognition a gold brings.

All through the WOC 1999 short race I was minding some press photographers close to the spectator control. As Yvette approached we could hear she was up on all others from the commentary so, after she went though, leading others, like a comet, and was away on the last loop, and the forest was clear, I ran speedily to the finish funnel in time to keep the Scandinog press back from the finish line so Yvette could punch as World Champion; before lying down.

Great to hear all the different ways people were involved. My son responded to the request from the drug testing team for volunteers - and guess who he was assigned to? Yep - Yvette! There was a photo of him in the Daily Telegraph the next day... well ofcourse it was of Yvette but I'm his mum so recognised his leg although the rest of him, standing alongside the union flag Yvette was holding, was airbrushed out!!

I spent most of the day guarding one of the controls, wrapped up in a mosquito net with gloves taped on to sleeves and trousers taped to ankles to avoid midges!

Working in the finish tent, including preparing certificates. Yvette's was one of the easier ones, as it didn't involve any strange (on a UK keyboard) character accents.
(And like Graeme the only other WOC I have been to was 93.)

I was standing on the finishing line collecting Emit cards from the runners as they finished.
I think my lasting memory is that whereas most of the competitors keeled over within a few feet of the finish line totally spent, Yvette was obviously on such a high knowing that she had won that she didn't even slow down as she crossed the finish line, and only stopped when she physically ran out of space due to the tapes at the back of the finish area.
It was definitely one of those days when I was glad to have volunteered to help, and even more glad that we had been allocated to help out on the finish!
A day I'll remember for a long time.
