Re: WOC Relay
I think there is a difference between one individual injury which does not result in assistance from other runners and another where other runners pull out to assist. There is always an element of risk in our sport, and we all know when we start an event that we may suffer something (hopefully not too serious) which requires us to retire. Had the injured party been able to withdraw without assistance that's bad luck for them but the result should stand. Where the injury is so serious that the next 3 places have to stop to assist then I think that's a completely different matter and others do not morally deserve the win. I'm not suggesting TG's bee sting last year was less serious than today's accident - clearly it was very serious for TG - but others in medal-winning positions were not denied their chance by having to withdraw to help him.

Maybe the difference this year is that the runners were together & saw / knew what was happening??
Anyways... if any runners comes across a potentially serious injury they should be prepared to stop like these guys did... it's part of the sport

I hope any decision they make on medals is taken by themselves with no outside influences

Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

Re: WOC Relay
Simone seems to have made a massive error on number 5. Sweden, Finland, Norway and Czech now all very close together in the lead.

Re: WOC Relay
I'm almost considering paying just to see the finish on this one! I want Helena to win.
And yup, if the boys want to not accept their medals, fair play to them. Don't think it should be forced by anyone though.

Andersen now in a clear lead - I do hope the perpetual silver medallist wins a gold here.

Re: WOC Relay
These sort of incidents, and many others, happen occasionly in all sports. It's very unlucky when it happens but cannot be allowed to affect the final result. First past the post takes the gold medal, and thats Switzerland. Understandably the Swiss guys might not feel good about the situiation, and may well choose not to accept their medals in honour of the 3 heros but the result will and should always stand as Switzerland 1st.
Thierry, Anders, and Smola deserve a medal of honour, what a fantastic level of sportsmanship and fairplay - hopefully they'll receive something on an international level. Also I'm sorry GG, and Scott, but I'll be supporting Thierry, Nordberg, and Smola just as much as you guys in the Long Final!

Re: WOC Relay
They've just had the women's medal ceremony. Has there been one for the men? There's no mention of it on the live commentary, and apparently they've just taken the podiu down?

Re: WOC Relay
Just announced the beginning of the Men's ceremony. Was surprised they'd removed the podium, but feel it was perhaps more a language misunderstanding

Re: WOC Relay
That men's prize giving was a nonsense... if you are going to decline medals, decline them... don't hand them out all scrumped up to the athletes
