Well... as far as I can make out from BOF publications etc a team has been selected for WOC 2009... best of luck to them... But how much support do they have??? Have BOF appointed a lead coach etc... ? Not as far as I can see But maybe.... BOF website just doesn't publish details
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)
Have the entry lists for WOC, WTOC and Hungaria Cup been put online? Can't see them.
Though we're flying on the 7th we might not now arrive in Miskolc till the 19th, but that still means I'll get at least 4 races. Any Hungary or Hungarian-related questions, feel free to ask - Marti and I are happy to help.
The WOC/WTOC/Hungaria Cup website http://tajfutovb2009.hu/is not a thing of beauty and doesn't appear to have been updated much since early this month. The names of the British Trail-O team are yet to appear, for example, although the entries went in some time ago.
Its a pretty small group heading the administration in Miskolc and they are currently under enormous pressure to get everything ready in time. Once Bulletin 4 is finalised next week, hopefully the website will be more informative and up to date
You can get onto the entry lists from the main site by clicking on the section you want, then on Entry, then on the O-Centre icon. For the Cup, you can skip the Entry step. Ignore any request to logon (the password I was given has never worked anyway!) and click the entries tab. This will either work or ,if your are unlucky, crash your browser! It takes a while to download all the entries for the Cup courses.
Ah, thanks. Considering that Julianna Grant is on the organising team, I've been surprised that the English on the website has been so iffy, but I'm sure she's been worked off her feet like everyone else.
I noticed when I entered that the age categories above M/W21 aren't divided into A and B categories, so I think I'm going to get some "value" orienteering...
Julianna has indeed been worked off her feet, but her involvement is with the Trail-O.
She's had nothing to do with the content of the website, however, which is being administered by the central organising group in Miskolc, some of whom speak excellent English.
As for the age classes, Hungary is a small country and so the numbers participating in the older age groups tends to be lower and therefore they tend not to divide the classes into A & B categories. But perhaps the coursesmay not be quite as long as you might expect in the UK.
GG and Pippa were in Slovakia at the weekend at the Karst Cup http://web.tuke.sk/obeh/gps/ Norwegians looking v strong. Results: http://www.vos-tpk.sk/ (The four races (etapa) are listed in the right-hand column - click on vysledky)
Anyone got any info about web TV, TracTrac etc.? And whether there'll be Wifi at the assembly areas?
I'm in Debrecen now and quite excited. Not a lot of info available though for us also-rans. A 28-page document for the WOC participants but no sign of event details for the Hungaria Cup. Or maybe I'm not looking in the right place again.
According to the most recent WOC bulletin there will be TV cameras in the terrain. I don't know if that applies to all races, and whether there will be online broadcast, but given the likely small size of the domestic audience it would seem sensible to have an online stream.
There will be tracking - all competitors will carry devices though only some will actually be functional; others will be dummies. I hope they have enough working devices that all finalists will be tracked.
WorldofO normally has links to all the coverage options, so I'll be tuning in there next week.
Looks like I was overly optimistic. According to WorldofO the TV coverage is for the big screen in the arena. There's no mention anywhere of an online feed. GPS tracking will be a pay service - no indication of how much it'll cost, or what happens to your money if it doesn't work!
http://news.worldofo.com/2009/08/14/woc-2009-all-you-need-to-know/ pay for trac-trac - mind you, as I have limited access to internet at the moment I'm not too fussed - dare say the WoO live blog will have screenshots of courses, routes etc, as well as picking the best of the live results - and me suddenly typing all scandi if the Nordics are anything to go by
