Re: S6D after event drinks policy
When I read the headline I thought this was another "spam" post -and then I saw who had posted it

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

"We strongly recommend that all competitors fully hydrate (drink plenty) before starting"
Nice of them to clear that one up too...

Glad to see the 6-Days ahead of the game (as usual).
A good way to save the event money (lots) and thus help keep entry fees down.
A great way to help the environment by avoiding tens of thousands of plastic bottles being used.

Plus also recognition that people travelling a long way, particularly if flying, may have difficultly bringing a bottle with them - hence provision on the first day only. Someone has really thought this through.

Re: S6D after event drinks policy
Yes I wrote about the provision of water in CS a couple of years ago - it's a no win situation - after the last Scottish we were asked to take our plastic bttles away to be recycled - 5 x 6 bottles - 30 bottles in a bag for two weeks around Scotland
apart from the cost and environmental issues.
But people are starting to get twitchy if you provide water in containers in case its manky and then there are cups to dispose of too.
The initial provision of water and a drinking container (possibly a memento to boot) is such a good idea I wish I'd thought of it myself!

I've heard a few negative comments about this, so it's good to see a positive thread about it!

Or just copying the success of the no-drinks-at-finish policy at JK 2009?

Whatever, its a good idea. Another reason not mentioned above is the logistical hassle is saves. At JK 2009 the cost wasn't going to be an issue as I think Northumbrian Water initially proposed sponsoring with free water. But its the challenge of transporting 20,000 bottles of water - just the sheer bulk and weight of it.
That said, I'm not sure I agree with the day 1 policy. Seriously, how many people are travelling in such a way that they can't fit in their own water bottle(s), or just buy some water when they get to Scotland? And most people will need to bring their own bottle(s) anyway to have something to drink before the day 1 race, and may well want more than they are given at the finish on day 1 too ('cos it being Scotland its sure to be warm and sunny

It may not have been completely sunny but it was warm enough today at Tentsmuir running round the training controls.

Have to say that I do quite like the policy of the Belgian 3 Days - providing a beer tent.
