WOC selection races

Bryn Davies is a kiwi and I think may be going to WOC for them, Last I read OJ wasn't ill (but you never know, he could be now?) and I heard rumours that JD was focusing on World Mountain Running Trophy champs this year, not WOC.

The last 2 statements could well be all wrong though

Well I must say that was most enjoyable - even if I didn't met my Friday targets of top 20 finish and not being last out as no one mispunched and I was a few minutes behind the last elite. However i managed not to be last on Saturday thanks to Mrs KP. Both courses were really tough going.

Everyone should have a go at these courses to appreciate just how good our elite are. Its quite an education. i shall have a lie in tomorrow while they tackle the long courses - hope it cools down a bit

I heard rumours that JD was focusing on World Mountain Running Trophy champs this year, not WOC.

Sounds unlikely to me given that JD is on the start list for Skaala Rett Opp which is on the same day as the World Mountain Running Champs GB Team Selection race.

(Point of note - the World Mountain Running Trophy no longer exists as the IAAF upgraded it to World Championship status as of this year, meaning we now send a GB&NI team rather than Home Nations.)

I can see why based on the selction race results Sarah Rollins could be selected for all events, but should she not miss one of the events to concentrate on the others and do well in one rather than just alright/average in all of the events, which is what I felt happened to her last year.

From reading the Czech Orienteering Federation's news pages during last year's WOC, Dana Brozkova, on the other hand, did exactly that and specifically missed out the middle to concentrate on the other events and it paid off as she won the long (OK, granted that it was on home ground but still a massive achievement).

So although Sarah stands above the rest of the British women, but perhaps it'd be counterproductive to let her run everything, because it'll just take it all out of her? In Didsco's selection would it be best to replace her on the middle with Rach Elder?

Also, any rumours about Grace Elson applying for British citizenship after her forthcoming nuptials? From the selection race results it looks like she'd have a pretty good chance of being in the British team!

Anybody know why Pippa didn't run? Is she injured/getting back to full fitness or unavailable. Otherwise surely she must be in the equation

Thought I'd speak for myself to avoid speculation.

I don't want to run all the races this year, as previously suggested, as I'll just be knackered. The programme doesn't lend itself to running them all this year either whereas last year it was more feasible.

Anyway, I didn't spot Pippa in any of Dids' team. She has had an injury but all being well should be fit to fight in WOC so I would put her firmly in the team....but I guess we shall wait for selections.

I thought the selection races were a very high quality this year, with great maps, courses and well organised. Shame they are always such distant, select affairs, when they could be more open to the 'public', which would be more fun. I guess the reason being is that this way the selectors can do just what they want on the terrain they want and not have to cater for anyone else.

So a great weekend's racing.....although my arms and legs are tingling

Pretty close to what I'd have guessed - that's a great Men's Relay team. I had thought Jo might get the nod for 1st Leg for the women given her Scandi relay experience, but other than that it looks very well balanced. I'm guessing the fact that the Long Final is two days after the relay has affected the decision making.

Well done to all, and especially to Rhodri...a great achievement!
