Re: Sheffield Ultrasprint 12th July - 2 PBs?
Can we set some records? I guess most entrants will get two personal bests.
Who can already equal or beat four events in one day? Who has punched 90 controls in a day?
Every entrant will get four races; three heats and a semi-final. They are high intensity courses with lots of controls. My guess is that you might have punched 90 controls after four races. The top four will get another 30 or so in the final.

Also it's easy to get there by public transport: train to Sheffield (or Dore) and then the 97/98 bus.

Hope to see you all there!

Er, yes, 203 controls! At the Mega Course Event which was a world record in 2005, on this map with these descriptions.

But that probably doesn't match the Ultrapsrint for number of controls per hour. It'll be intense...!

That boulder is about the size of a detached house, and those three controls were farther apart than some will be at the Ultrasprint..

Pawtuckaway...
159-161 Over or round? Isn't the circle meant to be centred on the feature, not shifted to the side? Is this the best area between Manchester and Nottingham?

No, it's the best area between Manchester (NH) and Durham (NH). But nowhere near Sheffield (UK)graeme wrote:Pawtuckaway...

This is mentioned in the results where is states:
".. the descriptions included some fanciful ones and things that you don’t often see in these parts: … Boulder SW side, boulder N side, boulder SE side: three consecutive controls on the same boulder (some of the boulders in New Hampshire are big!)"
It also comments that:
"I wanted to make sure that a control could never be seen from the previous control, and that was the case." which is presumably true for a SW-N-SE combination.

How quickly you forget! Less than 3 months since I posted this

377 controls in 2 days - so I dug the maps out to check the split. Day 2 - 164. day 1 - 213!! So there!!
And as for controls per hour? per minute more like. Those 377 controls took me less than an hour, and I wasn't fast enough to qualify from the quarter-finals

It's not a case of forgetting - I just answered Peter's question

You won't be punching quite that many controls at the Ultrasprint, but everybody who runs the heats will get through to the semi-finals, at least.

Re: Sheffield Ultrasprint 12th July
ok, I'll bite on the 90 controls and 4 courses bit:
7 courses, 105 controls, ~44km, ~4¾hours in the forest within 24 hours (from 9am on Saturday, with 4 courses on the Saturday and 3 on the Sunday if you want to be picky about what a day is).
None of this sprint stuff in parks. Proper forest orienteering at 24h-OL. (Full report in CompassSport...).
