Re: Age Class Prizes...
Anyone for weight classes in orienteering -give us gravitationally challenged gentlemen an opportunity?
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: Age Class Prizes...
You could just define a minimum BMI for orienteering, say 28, and then strap sandbags to anyone weighing less than that to bring them up to the appropriate weight. Should even things up a bit.

Re: Age Class Prizes...
exactly Scott but perhaps 30 versus 28 else I need to diet
Paul Coulridge and I have a bet that he could carry the difference in our body weights in a ruc sac and still beat me over a Black Course - should be interesting as he'll need to be carrying 25-30 kilos in my guestimate. Not yet agreed the event where this handicap contest will take place but it will be at a badge/regional/level 2 (whatever we are calling them this week) in the SE this autumn!

It's only the same as a handicap horse race where the horses with less skinny riders get to carry extra bags of lead.
However I once challenged someone to a body weight equal race, but then quietly dropped the idea when I realised I would have to more than double my body weight.

now to be fair there's been a lot less of that sort of thing since the EU cut all the grants for bestiality (a process officially known as "decoupling")

Kapa 3-days in Latvia had a 100kg+ class the year I was there. The prize giving podium was visibly creaking!

Re: Age Class Prizes...
There is sometimes a clydesdale class in some triathlons in the USA for the big fellas.
Quote:
A Clydesdale Athlete is any runner or triathlete usually over 200lbs(women over 145lbs are called Athena's). Each weight group will be divided into 2 age groups: an open category for those 39 and under and a masters division for those 40 and ove

200lbs is positively featherweight -I was heavier than that when I did the Great North Run 20 years ago!
