Beer orienteering

This looks fun.

The Bier OL is a team competition. Each team consists of two people. All teams start at the same time and have to run 4 different orienteering courses. After each leg the team passes the finish area, where there is a refreshment control with beer. After finishing drinking beer the team is allowed to continue to the next leg. The team with the fastest time, passing all control points in the given order and drinking all glasses of beer is the winner.

Takes Alc-O to a new level! (of organisation as well as competition?)
woulod they have dubious home-made spirits/the comedy of foodcolouring and milk beforehand, just to prep everyone's stomach/the surprise of Absinthe and Custard as the last drink (that actually went down very well!)

I think BUCs should fund a trip for the current beer-race champions (seeing as all they do is pinch money from the champs anyway!)

Summer trip next year? Sure ShUOC/EUOC could give it a fair crack (and get beaten by SPOOK in all probability!)
€10 seems pretty cheap including the drink as well!

Someone showed me a video of something in Italy (I think) last winter - a Long-O-Night-O-Alc-O type affair. It looked great fun!

Check out the photo's from last years race - looks amazing. Those photo's of the beer drinks control have sent me straight to the fridge for a cold one, quality!

Looks like they use the race, the beer, and after party + DJ mainly to get new people involved in orienteering. Seems like a good idea to me. Maybe some of the British clubs should give this one a go....

what with all the bru-ha-ha with 'Initiation ceremonies' last year, if we advertise something involving daft drinking I have no doubt that the university would immediately shut the club down, especially with the amount of warnings sports' clubs have been given!
It's a sad indictment that as Hockey/Rugby clubs etc turn drinking to an obtuse competition, we can't have our own fun

hence the reason our end-of-year alcO is held in an empty park and hardly advertised.

At Highland 1977 there was a beer race on the rest day in Roseisle. There was a pint of beer for each competitor at EVERY control and the orienteering was full on technical. Rumour had it (was it true?) that Jean Ramsden was the first to the last control, but fell asleep between there and the finish on the playing fields

If you're a dedicated beer drinker you could always try the Straw Race at Oxenhope on July 5th (not much navigation but plenty of beer)

aye, we do feel a bit like 15 year-olds in the park, drinking cheap cider and hiding from the CSOs! Not really affected our ability though :p (at all things)
