White rose entries

Crikey that was confusing. I went on to the White rose website which directed me to Oentries - but they said entires were closed so I emailed Ali who said the entry system had been transfered to fabian for some reason.

so I went on to fabian and entered - but it prompted me to do the colour coded classes which I did and on completing I see my 3 entries represented half of the entry to date. The rest are still on the Oentries system and entered under age classes - i'm not sure where we'll end up as at least one of us elected to run out of class anyway. (That's another thing - why is 20S not listed in the suggested age classes assigned to the colour coded system - I note 20S is listed in the rankings - Two of my children have the (dubious) honour of heading the M and W 20S - so how will they accrue ranking points if they have not been assigned a class (not that they are remotely bothered as both thought it hysterical when i told them)

With the first closing date approaching I hope not too many people get lost in the system.

also it's a shame you have to make a separate entry for the relay event

In summary it doesn't matter which colour coded course you run, everyone will be ranked in a single list (filterable by age class if desired). The age class is still captured as you can see from the start list.

Agreed, but as you can see from the entry steps, the Team Score event configuration is considerably different from the individual events. A single payment for entry of multiple events is on the to-do list!!

In summary it doesn't matter which colour coded course you run, everyone will be ranked in a single list (filterable by age class if desired).

I feel I ought to point out that that is a proposal, and is still some way from being agreed upon, never mind implemented...

In the meantime, the rankings system is working like this. And yes, M20S and W20S appear to be missing from the list of classes.

Thanks Fabian - i understand what you are saying - but as I said a few months ago in CompassSport - the new colour coded system should be fine but doesn't make much sense until the ranking list is up and running. At the present and until the new rankling list (ha ha I shan't bother correcting that) young Neville is adrift as he is unable to score points in his favoured class.

The funny thing is - and I've only just noticed - that I actually intended for him to run M21S as he is allergic to long courses like the rest of the family - it's only now that I see that is the same as the non-differentiated M20 class - but I'm not sure there was a way for me to indicate that on the entry form without altering his database. although there was at SinS - don't know why the difference!

anyway - the Fields have entered now doubling the Fabian entry to 12 - if anyone else wants to save a bit of money enter by thursday (The white rose should give me a discount for all this free publicity I'm generating!)

Curiouser and curiouser - according to the Oentries start list there is a white course and two people have entered it...
....we are talking about the same event here aren't we - you and I aren't going to end up at some alternative event on our own slugging it out for the family trophy between ourselves are we?

My mistake sorry - the White was on the next page of the EBOR spec!! I will add it later today. Also note that the cheap entry rate has been extended until midnight on Thursday 11th June.

I find it very bizarre that, after taking lots (? no idea as can't find the event on oentries) of entries for the organisers to switch to a different online system. would be interesting to know the reasoning behind it

Perhaps it's worth clarifying this further: some parts of the document referred to are indeed proposals but one vital part is not ...

There is unanimous agreement amongst the RWG that the core of the new Ranking Scheme should be a web-based single scale of rankings across all age classes, with ranking points calculated according to relative performance at an event, normalised according to the strength of the field at that event and the spread of times. This would be a development of the maths behind the existing ranking scheme and indeed the IOF World Rankings.

The Board has accepted both that it is right to invest in a new ranking system, and that it should be based on the approach outlined above. Work has begun to develop and test the algorithm that will underpin the system, and the computer programming that will be required to make it work.

These aspects of the RWG’s proposals are not being consulted upon.

These extracts from the RWG consultation document confirm The Board's decision:

It is recommended that the Board endorse the single ranking scale approach and instruct the RWG in conjunction with the Chief Executive, to draw up a detailed specification for the algorithm and software programming, and to discuss and progress implementation with British Orienteering’s website designers.

A full specification for the algorithm was submitted in early March but, because any rankings calculations need relevant data to process, work cannot start until the new British Orienteering results system is up and running.

Not sure what's going on, but I've just noticed that the Warrior / Lakes Runner Mountain Ringlet event is no longer listed on Oentries either, although it's not appeared on Fabian4 or SI Entries.

I am informed that the customer service part of Oentries has been inadequate and EBOR had received numerous complaints from would be entrants who had to result in SNAIL mail as they were unable to get OENTRIES to accept their entry.

With just under 3 months to go until the campsite gate opens for White Rose 2009, we have reviewed the arrangements put into place for pre-entries.

The White Rose weekend is arguably the most complex series of orienteering races and activities available in the UK, so the choice of an on-line pre-entries partner is very important.

We became aware of a small number of people that had experienced problems with OEntries. So in the last e-newsletter, we asked for feedback from anybody that had encountered problems.

We were taken aback by the response - so had no hesitation in moving White Rose 2009 pre-entries to Fabian4 – the (probable) market leading on-line O-entry provider.

What does this mean to you?

If you have already submitted an entry via OEntries.
Your entry will automatically be transferred to Fabian4. You don’t need to do anything, but you can check with Fabian4 if you want - to double check that we have transferred your details correctly.

If you have already submitted an entry via OEntries and you want to change or amend it.
The OEntries portal has been closed. Therefore any changes in entries already submitted need to be made via the entries secretary or Fabian4. If you want to increase your entry details (e.g. compete in more events – after all there are 7 to choose from!), you can do this via Fabian4.

Still to enter
No problem. Go to the event website at http://www.whiteroseweekend.org.uk and you will find links on the ENTRIES page to the Fabian4 entries portal.

Prices?
No change

Cut off dates?
The first cut-off date was 4th June. After this date, most prices were intended to increase. However we are conscious that our change in on-line pre-entry providers has taken place just as people may be trying to get their entry in before the price change. NO PROBLEM – the cut off date has been put back to 11th June. You can enter at the lowest price through Fabian4 until that date.

We have made this change because we were concerned that people were having problems entering White Rose 2009. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused, and look forward to seeing you in August. Please contact the entries secretary if you have any further concerns or problems about your entry to White Rose 2009.
