York Park Race

I thought the micro-o was fairly interesting but it was too dark for my old eyes. It added too much time to the day for the amount of enjoyment it gave.

I also enjoyed the butterfly loops, even though I got very confused and spent much time relocating. This was mostly due to my desire to run flat out on these short legs but doing so in the wrong direction

The legs out and back to the butterfly were pretty bland but I guess needs must

The MicrO seemed to take up a lot more time than the railway museum one last year - but I got 30secs worth of penaltys less this year so I'm not complaining!
Wasn't overly keen on the Butterfly area, and it mainly lead to path running between each one. Would have liked to get into the city a bit more like last year, in amongst the crowds! Still, a good race with cracking weather and a welcome break from the 'R' word.

As seabird says, horses for courses. Like alanbrett, I thought the micro-O was the best bit this year - I really enjoyed that, including the navigation between controls! Although I enjoyed the main race, it was the fourth best of the four York races I've done: a couple of straightforward longish legs to get to and from the butterfly loops, with the area used for those loops of limited interest and attraction (I enjoy summer street racing as it gets away from the nettles!!). Once the route from 16 had been chosen, it was quite a long run-in to the finish, hardly looking at the map - just lacking in pace after 6 months off! Didn't help that the route off the map looked the most tempting. Like ba-ba, I think York is at its best when you get in amongst the crowdsd in the city for a part of the race, and that didn't feel the case this year.
All in all, great fun though, and remains a must on our calendar. Good to see the entries go up again.

Has anyone else noticed that, on Routegadget, some of the control circles at the East of the map seem rather a long way from their correct locations? For example, 4 should be on the track and 8 on the depression.

That's not that unusual - getting the controls in the right place on RouteGadget is pretty fiddly, and it normally takes several attempts and quite a bit of practice to get the hang of it. It rarely makes much difference, but I guess it's another one of those things that will get better as more people get more used to doing it.
