Re: Scottish Championships Weekend
While the SOA site is down (and I am sure Paul will fix it soon) I have posted a temporary set of results here.

Sounds as if it must have been a great sprint to the line for 2nd and 3rd place.

Re: Scottish Championships Weekend
Another great weekend - well done (and thanks) to all the northen clubs.
On the relay, why weren't the runners who ignored the "follow the tapes for 80m" direction after control 130 in the control descriptions disqualified? I saw 3 people cut down onto the run-in instead of following the taped route out of the spectator control. On my map it looks as though the red line follows the taped route too and is not direct from the spectator control to the next control.

Re: Scottish Championships Weekend
I've just arrived home and am investigating the problem with the SOA site.
Update:
It's fixed now and results etc are there.

Re: Scottish Championships Weekend
Had a great weekend. Thanks to all organisers/planners/ helpers etc.
Really glad it didn't rain today though. That could have made the relays really miserable, where as they were quite sociable, with people mingling more than when segregated and spread out in club tents.

Excellent courses for the tough area in classic harwood style. Well done to the organisers/planners/helpers.

Re: Scottish Championships Weekend
Interesting question MappingMum. Having seen 2 runners ignore the tapes I asked some local spectators to stop anyone else doing it. (For those that weren't there the spectator contol had a 90m taped route leaving it).
Whilst I didn't want this disqualification would in my view have been very harsh indeed. Yes the descriptions were marked properly, and having contacted the Condes creator as to how I marked the map properly, the maps did have a dashed line from the control. However the whole are was so tight that these lines intermingled with the broken finish circles making them very as clear as possible, but still unobvious.
It certainly made no difference to any results.
You could also argue against the numerous people that decided to cut out climb on the run in by skirting the hill on the left (dangerous) side. The descriptions clearly say follow tapes to the finish. Now mass disqualification for that would have been really popular

Re: Scottish Championships Weekend
The run in is usually a bit of a sprint race though. I probably didn't stick close to the tapes but tended to presume the description meant run in the general direction of the tape to the finish (overtaking people if you have the energy) as is usual in a run in. If you wanted to channel people maybe 2 parallel tapes that people had to run between from the last control would have helped us get the message.
Although I make a bit of an effort with the run in I generally find the minutes I lose in the forest far outweigh the odd second or 2 I may pick up on the run in.

Re: Scottish Championships Weekend
Looks like a couple of good & tough races.
Notable performances I noticed:
Claire Ward's win
Kirsten Strain with the fastest leg time on Women's Open - Nice
and one I would not have predicted 10 years ago: Lard was about 30 sec quicker than Siggy Craig-Gould on the relay.

Re: Scottish Championships Weekend
I am trying to make it easy for people to share photos taken at the event.
I can set up the SOA website to pick up photos on Flickr with a specific tag, so if you add the tag "scottishorienteeringchamps09" to your shots they should be selected.
This is a trial to see how effective/safe it is.
They will be viewable at:

I wish my hamstring had thought it was a good idea. Ouch.
