It might be possible to search the database by name... so if he was entering and hiring an SI, they could still search the db for his details and save time entering the details.
It is definintely a data protection issue, but since he broadcasts his Falkirk address on the elite test website I dont know what he is moaning about.

why, its your own problem, basic orienteering skills of keeping in contact with the map should mean you always know what control you are going for and where you have been.

But if you were really tired and had a total memory lapse, control cards did show where you had last been. Plus you could write your control codes on them which means that it is not quite as easy to mispunch.
However in all other regards SI is miles better

that doesnt alway work... as an M12 or somthing at the JK i was copying down my codes onto my card, 101,102,103,104,105... then i thought, screw this, it clearly goes up like that all the way, so i just filled it in without looking... big mistake. needless to say i got disqualified that day.

I'm not a rules boffin or anything but I'm sure it's true planners aren't allowed to do that, but then it does happen. I seem to remember some rumblings cos it happened at WOC when it was in Czech Republic (some time ago).
While it's not exactly rocket science remembering which control you're going to and reading the codes off the sheet; something better than a blurry sweat covered sometimes ink running bit of paper wrapped in almost see through plastic would be good
