For similar reasons, I don't understand the green on the eastern slag heap: its never going to be used for "over or round" route choice, and even if it was, the hill is clean underfoot and perfectly runnable (steepness aside).

But the contours were still (to my dodgy eyesight) perfectly legible, and the green does make the clearings stand out more - I personally find it really hard to pick out tiny patches of yellow on white.

Tess, i found the tapes confusing as well. They actually went into the big yellow area west of the control although weren't that obvious. We were then supposed to run through the crossing point and north to the underpass (for reference, the red line does go to the crossing point and not straight but is hard to see due to everything else on the map there). It's only looking at the map after i finished that i see i did do the right thing, but was very confused at the time! and don't think you should be dsqd for it

As I had never been to the area before, I had looked at the M55 courses at the JK two years ago and last year's BOK Trot on routegadget. In fact I had noticed that there was an "over or round" choice on this slag heap. At the JK two years ago, the 8 plotted routes are shown on the attached image - some go over and some go round. Not sure if the runnability will have influenced the choices though.

Thanks rach! having not picked up my first half map i am glad to figure out what i did wrong. as it doesnt affect any results i cant imagine i would realistically be disqaulified, but if anyone felt it really necessary...! Just nice to know what went on there. Thanks.

never had a problem getting courses aligned, perhaps the fault lies with the map?

They never align exactly well for me the first time. But I usually get something correct and I stop fiddling with it because better is some time the enemy of good.

With the BEOC RouteGadget, it was not a matter of trying to be perfectionist. It would put the first control I fit at the correct place, but put the second one between 100 and 500m of where I had clicked.

So I'll put the files online so that fellow geeks can have a try and send the file to Jarkko to see if he spot a problem.

I've just added an "event" for the Part 2 of the M21E.

To come back to the combined map, the problem seems to be that RouteGadget only translate and scale but doesn't rotate when trying to fit the controls.

With the rotated map it was a bit better but still not acceptable and my patience reached it's limit.

It would be interesting to see some GPS trace over the combined map and see if there is some distortion or if I mess-up when I combined the maps.
