problems with forum
am i the only one having trouble getting into the forum and making posts - i keep getting error notices - perhaps it's a Mac thing - although I seem to think it happened before and someone tweaked something and it was a lot better

'Internal Server Error'
getting them all the time, it's a server issue and nothing to do with your mac

I've always thought it happens when somebody is adding, or has just added, a new post to a topic that you simultaneously click on.

I have made some tweaks, please can you let me know if you are still experiencing this problem.
The nopesport database is now over 500mb which is likely making the problem worse as time goes on.

I sometimes get "internal service error"s on returning to discussion (etc). Latest one just happened there.

Re: problems with forum
it seems a little better to me now - but stalled the first time I tried to post this!
An idea: Perhaps we should have an expiry date on the threads - say 2 years without them being accessed? After all a lot of them are piffle and the ones that are not we can have endless fun re-debating every couple of years.
As far as I can see the only benefit of growing older is that you can watch repeats on the tv and not remember "who dun it". Mr H and I call it "QI moments" - when you know the answers to all the obscure quiz questions but can't remember watching the program before.

I guess if you deleted a load of old posts then people would loose their coverted badge status. Browns might become green, diehards would die a little less hard and gods become meer mortals

I'm pretty sure deleting posts won't affect this as the counter will be incremented when you make the post, it doesn't count them all every time.

Re: problems with forum
pyrat asked
Well, it's still pretty flaky this morning. It took me four goes to succesfully load the forum.nopesport.com page, the third attempt producing the response:-
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]
Too many connections [1040]
An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.
Is your server up to the demands placed on it??

OK ive made some more super secret tweaks, can you let me know if you experience any more internal server errors, I will also be keeping an eye out for errors.
In terms of keeping old posts, we plan to keep it all online for as long as possible and not delete anything.

Re: problems with forum
The trouble is people are trying to look at the forum and post on it.
If you all give up that habit even the worst software will be fine

That puts my theory out of the window.
Nobody has been posting this afternoon and you got the error before you posted.
