thats right. a rather fine establishment. great menu. they offered me the restaurant managers job, which i declined due to my 'orienteering commitments' hahaha
so now i earn the hearty sum of £4.50 per hour. thats the minimum wage by the way.
ah well its character building anyway.

Ah yes! I miss-spent some of my youth in the early 1970s at the Cock at Wishaw. It's popularity stemmed from the fact that it was over the county boundary in Staffordshire which had different licensing hours which meant you could drink for an extra half hour at the Cock after the Highwayman had closed - many a high speed Dukes of Hazzard style chase down Camp Lane to get to The Cock at Wishaw - which was how everyone always referred to it - as opposed to any other Cock I suppose

a trip down 'camp' lane to get to 'the cock'.... spare us the details please!
Mrs H you should consider bringing Mr H over for an evening meal.... i think you would be rather surprised at how the place has changed. i've been working in the hospitality industry for 7 years now and have to say this is one of the best of the 'new' country pubs that i have seen.
its part of M&B's 'gastro-pubs' initiatives - e.g decent food, good ales and a strong wine list. its also been fairly tastefully done out, however i would reccomend visiting early in the week, as from thursday onwards it gets really quite busy after 9.30pm, and full of loud besuited wannabes flaunting their virtual wealth.
however i started my shift at 6pm yesterday and there were 3 blokes at the bar in paint splattered green overalls and steel toecapped boots, so theres no dress code at least. perhaps you could come straight from a Summer Evening Event.... just promise not to talk to me if you are still wearing harliequins kit!

Cock At Wishaw
We went there for work Xmas meal. Since I work for the Health Protection Agency I'm not sure whether that's a recommendation or not
When I did my student stint behind the bar it was at the Duck Inn on Hagley Rd, and looking at it now it's obviously been downhill all the way ever since (for the Duck not me).
