Re: UK Cup
BEOC Long was not at the Forest of Dean when the UKCup programme was decided in June 2008. BEOC was only moved from BOC when the date of the latter changed to February.

Re: UK Cup
Elite Competitions will be meeting in June to determine the 2010 UKCup programme. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Re: UK Cup
Scrap it.
It served an important role in the past, but it no longer serves to encourage new formats, or even high class events.
There are so many Championships nowadays it doesn't provide a focus for racing: people would go to those events anyway.
Maybe just have an overall UK orienteering champion based on:
BEOC (long, middle, sprint)
JK (long, middle, sprint)
Selection race/UK Cup Final (long, middle, sprint)
If the UK cup contains all those races (which it should), there's hardly room for any more. None of our top competitors goes to an event just because its in the UK cup anymore (probably the 56-minute long at Whitbarrow was the last).

Re: UK Cup
save it for the big races, don't have uk cup on some crappy event in the arse-end of nowhere (i.e. boc this year)
i like graeme's idea of the 3 BEOC races, 3 JK races and the 3 selection races.

This has pretty much been the format of the UK Cup for the past few years, hence my comment on why when the BEOC long venue and date changed, so should the attached UK Cup status. As a compromise, I think they should add BEOC long as a 10th race for this year (seems harsh to remove the BOC race in Feb). They've had 10 races in the past, and it also allows some foreign based runners to get 6 scores (thus an overall ranking) especially now the WOC test races are included.

That's basically what the UK Cup is. Those are the only races that are really going to pull our top people in. It's been a while since the JOK Chasing Sprint had a class field, for example.

make it a year long event. would give me a reason to go orienteering in the second half of the year.

But the Senior Home Internationals is a reason to orienteer in the second half of the year - try to beat the English (again)
