Re: World Schools 2009
ha ha sign indeed - I'll try and explain succinctly but it's complicated.
Yes Frog ordinary orienteers without a school team can still go. There are two different sorts of teams. The schools teams which come from schools where proper orienteering is treated as a main stream sport like Ulverstone and king Henry's. They have to have 5 pupils in each age class team.
then there is the select team which is generally 5 good club orienteers. but this is further complicated by the fact that 3 of the select team have to be chosen from schools which field " a team" at the schools champs (not the selection race before it) "a team" can be as few as 3 boys OR girls in a single year group. some times selectors have to go a fair way down the results to find the third member. the other two places go to the best orienteers with or without "a team".
So if you've got a likely lass or lad - pay two friends to start their race (they don't have to finish it) or failing that enter a couple of scarecrows and throw them over the start line!
The selected runners have to perform well at the selection race - which is a full standard event - and the schools champs - which is not. The results are not always clear as school years and age classes do not coincide.
Oh by the way - I had a look on young Neville's World schools top which must pre-date Robert's and it definitely says England on it .

This is not true as Mrs H knows.

Anyway we should be supporting those selected and looking forward to the next selection races. All rules are posted on the BSOA web site for the English Selection Races so everyone knows who is eligible for the select team and how many places they are eligible for.
I'm afraid I don't have Robs kit as he swapped it but I'm pretty sure it said England on it and that was a few years ago. The problem is with the ISF and the host nations who seem to have problems with the concept of England, Scotland and Wales.
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Just to clarify, at no point on this thread have the World Schools selectinos be questions. It's the World Class Start ones that AWK and I mentioned.

Oh really? I point you in the direction of B12 Temple Newsam - I'm sure you know what to look for

Sorry - can't see it! Please clarify. If it's what I think you are referring to, then you're pointing an accusing finger in the wrong direction.

I'm not accusing anyone of anything that's against the rules. I was merely telling Frog how the rules work. Why? what did you think I was doing?

Re: World Schools 2009
Saying that somebody on B12 at Temple Newsam either paid (found, if we allow for hyperbole) two friends simply to make up a team even if incapable of finishing, or chucked a couple of scarecrows over the line. As there's absolutely no evidence of the latter in those results, I can only surmise you mean the former. Now, I can see a situation where somebody who knew nothing about the individuals concerned (from a school not a million miles from here) might draw the wrong conclusions - but that is exactly what they would be, given the two concerned were fairly regular orienteers, competing in YBTs, CSCups and the like.
I didn't think for one moment you were suggesting that they were breaking the rules!

Back to 2009...
Friendship relay
Won by team including Jonathan Crickmore
2nd place team included Frances Wright
This is a mass start relay for 3 runners, the teams are put together by the organisers, to mix all the competitors up and it requires planning and co-ordination. (It is a bit like a Harris relay) There must be some interesting language combinations in some of the teams!
