They are rich because they have sponsors because the sport is actually big there. The TioMila and Jukola go out live on terrestrial TV.
Have you seen the women's results???

Frog,
to give you some idea how much money the top Clubs have over there - when I was at a multi-day event in Australia a couple of years ago, 2 of the top Antipodean M21 Elites missed the last day as their Swedish Club had paid for them to fly to Scandanavia to run for the Club at Tio Mila

hop fat boy, hop!

I have real player but when I click on the "listen" link on shoutcast it wants me to hunt on the internet for something to open a file with or download a file onto my (new and not wanting to muck it up) computer. What am I doing wrong? What language is the radio anyway. The TV looked interesting but there were 3 options none of which I understood.

Is it really worth me paying the 60NOK to watch? Everyone seems to be having problems with it. Anyone got coverage that can recommend either way?

Well done people. I'd like to watch the final mens leg, but I'm not an early morning sort of person, and it's my last lie in before I'm back to work

Coverage from here is pretty good - but then I am sitting in the Press tent looking at the live coverage on the side of a white marquee. Wifi is a bit ropey at times but hey...
As usual, it is pretty sensational here. Great run from Duncan Archer on first leg being 91 secs down - and his 1st team was still ahead of him! I am on 4th but our first leg runner dies in the last third.
Weather was excellent for the womens and now it is cool but tolerable. Tales of the forest - very much southern Skane type terrain, so think Spring Cup/southern England, except there is more rock in the terrain. Certainly looking into parts today fom the assembly, with all the brashings and thicker stuff, it was very Kyloe-esk.
Anybody who has not been out for TioMila or Jukola should definitely do it sometime. VERY memorable stuff and some tough technical navigation this year (as usual I guess) and as my team mate on first leg said - technical cross-country running - difficult to stay on your feet! My Long Night leg promises 18kms, and long legs with much route choice and some nice runnable deciduous forest further from the assembly arena.
Per Forsbrg of course is giving it ten to the dozen - oj oj oj - if you havent experienced him, go to the Scottish 6 days! you'll never forget him!
Best go and find some controls...

Re: Tio Mila
Good luck. I thought all the legs were 10k long or is that just the women's? Are they all 10 miles, that's nearer 18k. Sounds a long way in the dark. Do the late leg guys sleep or are they too hyped up? I don't envy all the guys on 10th leg.

I think Tio, and it's Finnish midsummer counterpart Jukola, are amazing. They are the biggest club competitions in orienteering, they are fought out in the small hours of the night. At Jukola there are only two races - Men and Women - while Tio has a Junior and Vets race as well. Simple. And they are massive. Tio is like three JK's condensed down to one 20 hour period of racing, while Jukola is more like the O-Ringen condensed to one day, one class. It's the biggest sporting event in Finland (think Great North Run) and the Jukola village of runners & spectators is usually the biggest town in the district for one night of the year.
The other great thing is how they are the most important race for anyone in scandinavia who takes their orienteering semi-seriously. It's like pub-football and Champions league all playing on the same pitch. Look at the names in the top teams and they are all regulars on the World Cup scene. I remember a few years ago the Halden second team was filled with podium-quality runners.
Also worth noting are the famous legs at Tio.
First, the (second) greatest mass start race (after Jukola)
Fourth, the langa natten/long night. Ungaffled, ultra-distance leg through the small hours. Large "buses" of runners form and important gaps can be formed. Totally mad when you think about it - running a 100+minute classic race starting at pub throwing out time!
Eight-Ten, the run-in. The real big guns come out for the podium contenders to fight it out. Even then it can still come down to a sprint finish - after 10+ hours and 100km+ of orienteering!
Enjoy the night. I've an exam on monday so won't be staying up much later
