Re: World Schools 2009
I've seen one "preparatory school" sign in the whole of Scotland - but maybe I've just missed hundreds of the things...... Why pander to a tiny minority of schools - over the whole of Britain 7.something percent of children get a private education, why, ohh why screw the system to support this tiny figure??????

Awk - one positive step would be for "English" teams to wear kit that says "England" rather than "Britian". It is galling to see that - the name is wrong.

A post on how irritating it is that BoF refer to Scotland as a region rather than a Nation is beyond the scope of this forum ( but should be voiced somewhere, sometime.) Something is broke and it should be fixed.
In the meantime, I'm prepared to step over the differences and support and congratulate all the British weans in Spain.
That's really very noble of you!

I agree.... certainly Rob's kit from when he ran in the World Schools says "England". It would be unfortunate if other teams have had it wrong.
I also agree about the use of the term 'region'. Personally, I've always preferred national and regional associations (which is what it is in the constitution), and have, for instance, never liked the term 'inter-regional'.

Hear hear.
Looking forward to seeing more good results from both teams in the Middle Race and comments here which reflect that.

Thanks - sorted!
As a fellow club member, delighted to see Florence Haines achieve her second gold of the championships.
I do wonder that, with this plus British Champs Gold, JK Sprint Gold and JK Individual Silver as a first year, might this just be enough to persuade the selectors that she should be selected for the Start Squad? I know her results are only marginally better than last year, but.....

Re: World Schools 2009
Am I missing something here, what were the World Class official selection race, just been through BOC & JK, hardly any of the 5 girls in the squad seem to go to these races, or maybe 2 of them changed their name as they have apparent siblings there. Out of the 5, only 1 of them has results equal to Haines.
Selections, got to love 'em!

ooh another can of worms!
Scottish selections are based on the Scottish Schools event, and then another closed 'selection race' that only those who went to the scottish schools event can go to.
Don't know about english selections...

I meant the World Class Start selections.
As far as I know the World Schools is done at a special selection race at the saturday and then the champs on Sunday.

What about the majority of children in the UK who go to schools that don't participate in orienteering competitions? If they are good at orienteering will they never get picked? Orienteering in schools is a minority thing.
