Just wondering,
Is there a national agreement over car parking charges if parking on a Forest Enterprise road? or can clubs charge for parking on their roads?
Can a club charge for 'car parking' and then say its a 'land use ' charge?

Re: Car parking charges
Our club normally only charges for car parking if the landowner lets us have a field in exchange for getting say £1 per car. The landowner usually says how much they want for the field. If we're not being charged for the land then we don't charge competitors.
Forest Enterprise don't normally charge for using their roads. I'm surprised they are in your area, or are you just using a carparking fee as a money spinner?

In answer to your last question, a club can charge what it wants, but it seems inadvisable to lie about the reason just as it's inadvisable to charge way over normal fees.
In Scotland, don't now if it's UK wide there is no longer an agreement with FC who feel at liberty to charge - at least in one upcoming event £2 per car

Assuming the agreement on the BOF website is still in force:
A further charge shall apply where extra facilities are provided such as car parking... Any additional charges made under this clause shall be subject to negotiation and agreement between the Commission and the event Organiser. These charges will apply in England, Scotland and Wales.

Re: Car parking charges
At Sarum Saunter yesterday we were asked to raise money for the (very helpful and encouraging, landowner's favourite charity. That's why there was a car park charge. Only one dissenter, and there were 4 people in that car!

Re: Car parking charges
the point was, the club were specifically charging £1.00 'parking charge' as a parkingcharge, for parking on a Forest Enterprise road (Which I thought was usually an agreed included amount); and saying then it was actually to cover land use fees - which I would have thought should be included in the entry fee.
I guess, instead of adding £1.00 to the entry, they wanted to raise extra money from using the car parking excuse - even if it is declared as for land use fees, surely this cannot be right?

I don't think so - isn't Fonthill is private land, rather than FC?
But anyway, see the blah I quoted above - the Forestry Commission are perfectly entitled to set a £1 charge (or whatever charge they like) for parking on forest roads. I not sure why there's any reason to doubt that this was the case at youngladdie's event.

Maybe they wanted to keep entry fees lower and encourage environmentally responsible behaviour such as car sharing?
I think that if the car park charge is not a reasonably simple pass through cost to the landowner for car parking, I would want the club to be clear about this in event literature. However I don't see any reason why the cost of organsing could be moved from entry to car parking fees to some extent. (Doesn't affect leview either way.)
I have also known events where the entry fee has had to subsidise a car parking charge. None of this relates to Forest Enterprise areas- I've no experience of that.

Re: Car parking charges
YoungLaddie - I suggest you ask the organiser of the event in question. I am sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation.
