A thank you to the team who staged today's NE. Nice car park, good atmosphere, good courses (although strangely some quite long courses didn't visit the southern forest).
Did the commentary stop after Interland? Not sure why, if I'm correct in saying that.
Anyway, thanks a lot!

Can I also say my thanks - from what I saw, it was a well organised event.
My course (9) stayed in the more Northern areas which was fine by me - I really enjoyed it. I wasn't looking forward to the steeper slopes in the South with their larger numbers of thickets. I find thickets can be vague and I always find these harder to navigate through - or at least I am more likely to get lost in them!

Re: Burnham Beeches
Thanks Oldman, I'll pass on your views to the volunteers!
the reason some courses didn't go south of the fence is the landowner placed a numbers limit on that part of the area, which constrained the planning. the planners went to great lengths to get the optimal balance.
Unfortunately, We only had one commentator (thanks Andy) so we had to release him for a competitive run, which is why the commentary stopped. Commentary is not something casual volnteers are prepared/able to do - so we (orienteering corporately) need to work out how to grow some more. If we had 2 or more commentators then commentary would have continued until the last runner had finished, which was my original intent.
There were, unfortunately, some hiccups and to those individuals affected, I hope this did not detract too much from your enjoyment of the event.

Give them a break. Before the event you ask (with a morsel of implied criticism) that the start times are not yet posted (subsequently explaining that you need to plan your weekend) - the organiser explains and says they'll be up real soon. Then on getting home tonight you compliment HH on an excellent event - and I echo that - but from your most recent post (9pm) one might infer that really you were just working yourself to ask about when the results were going to be posted (with another morsel of implied criticism).
I'm sure their target is to get the results up as soon as possible, and if that's not till tomorrow but any wrinkles are ironed out, great. Why not take pot luck tomorrow.
Well done to all the Happy Herts crowd and their helpers from many other South East clubs, and to England on winning the Interland competition.

Give them a break
It depends on how important results are perceived to be ...
In the good (?) old days pre electronic punching, SLOW were (rightly) of the view that, once the last competitor was home, the highest priority should be put on to publishing the results before memories of the event started to dwindle.
So we retired to a quiet place, bought pizzas and drinks, punch checked all the cards, entered all data into a spreadsheet and calculated race times, had the controller check the results and Badge times, copied the results into a results booklet, added officials' comments, photocopied hundreds of results booklets, stuffed envelopes and got them into the post. And all within 12 hours of the event closing time.
We managed this with great regularity too, and gained huge satisfaction from putting the event to bed without having anything hanging over us for the next few weeks. We even had some fun doing it.
Just an observation ...

Re: Burnham Beeches
And in case you hadn't noticed, the results are up........ And in fact were up when I first looked much earlier this morning. So may well have been within the 12 hours you mention.
Many thanks to Happy Herts and JOK for an enjoyable weekend's orienteering.

I can assure Billy Whizz that there was no criticism implied in either posting and to infer otherwise from such limited information is absurd. I even went out of my way to ensure that madmike understood that. Please don't try to read into what people post more than they actually write - that's most unfair!

QUOTE OLDMAN
I'm still waiting for you to PM me, reveal yourself and explain what you meant when you wrote that Oldman. It seems most "unfair" that you hide behind that pseudonym and snipe at others and yet cry injustice when someone takes a pot at you!
Or perhaps they don't think Mr H can cope with the complexity of doing the survey?

I think it is a tribute to the expertise and dedication of results team across the clubs that provisional results are posted so quickly.
Since the results WERE up by 3am this morning Happy Herts clearly are with SLOW on this one - get it done within 12 hours. Well done to Kevin Parkes and his HH Results team.

Actually, Mrs H, you quote me selectively. What I actually wrote was:

I understood that the smilie implied making a joke, and was not to be taken seriously, but if you did not take it that way, I apologise.
I was not complaining about being attacked By BillyWhizz, just defending myself, as you yourself do whenever you feel it appropriate.
