If we have to cancel any more night O or day events in Deeside we might just consider a ski-o..... watch SOA and Maroc/Gramp websites carefully.

Then I hope your snow crust is much less than round here.
Its tolerable under the trees, but in open/rough its making one stride into 3 and the tips get caught badly when you break through to the melt below. Also the brambles are emerging and its time to stop then cos when they catch the ski in full flight you can damage all sorts of muscle
However, on Thursday last got the best runs I've had in Midlands, touring round for 4 hours on the back roads and tracks and few if any tyre tracks to contend with allowed good speed and stability.
Simple pleasures, and given that I've had the gear 25+ years, dirt cheap sport.

Conditions are currently stunning in the NE and have been so for the last week. Basically by far the best they've been for many years. Golf courses in particular are providing a fair number of orienteers with plenty of superb opportunities. I'm heading out in an hour for a lunchtime session at Hazlehead.

Very poor around here (Edinburgh area) although the Pentlands are looking good. Had a great run around Anagach at the weekend though. Awesome snow- (There is a rumour that there is a forest somewhere under it).

Event in the snow which did go ahead...
Whilst events are having to be cancelled left, right and centre, Harlequins Night Score on Walton Hill (Clent) went ahead last night. Most of the snow has gone from Birmingham, but there were still several inches on the hill. Dobs were the ideal footwear, and AR did not use skis.

Though I had them in the back of the car, and kind of wished I'd used them for control collecting (wouldn't have been faster, but would probably have worked). Any good recommendations for skiing areas within easy reach of Malvern this weekend (tempted by wherever the Welsh was due to be if that's had to be cancelled)?

Depends if you have skis that work... or not... If really stuck you can slalom ski & normal ski from 100m of my front door

Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

I'm confused by this idea of skis that "don't work". Unfortunately where you are isn't really any more convenient than Austria where I was on Monday!

A couple of members of CamRacers (Cambridge adventure racing team), one with her 2 teenage daughters, due to school being closed, had a nordic ski session in Coleridge Recreation Ground, on Mon 2 Feb - but no opportunity for navigation practice there. Anyway, for 3 of them, their first ever try on nordic skis - fortunately all had roughly the same size feet as me.

The obvious spot is across to the black mountains. The Hay end should be only an hours drive. You better be quick though as my mum how bought a pair of Xc skis 10 years ago from a charity shop and never used them is back from a three week cruse around in antarctica this weekend and I expect will be looking to get out and try them so it is sure to warm up...

Hope you have not gone to go skiing at Wentwood today AR. You would not be getting far from what I saw cyceling to within 5 miles and the same altitude this morning...

Well unless the ski-O has happened already its unlikely to now! Snow gone incredibly quickly in Deeside - helped by 10+C yesterday till late into the night. Still the past few years winter hadn't begun by this date in the calendar so there's still hope!
