New year, new spreadsheet, new leaders, new thread.
A few anomalies (people who didn't punch the start box) in the Edinburgh results have now been resolved, so here are the standings in the 2009 Nopesport Urban League: Men's, Women's
As ever, please let me know if anything's wrong.

The only thing wrong is the exclusion of Lincoln, despite it using all the correct age categories, which only became apparent 3 days before the race. But it would be wrong to shoot the messenger...

Thanks again for doing the scoring this year Roger.

I didn't know Lincoln had been excluded, and was slightly annoyed to find out I wouldn't score Nope points, but more annoyed that had I known I could have entered the long course.

Oh lumey I am a long way down - never mind it's my last year as a vet - always something to look forward to although I will be sad to leave my little band of W50s (for a couple of years at least) - we seem to have a W35 in our midst - is that allowed?

I would reiterate to all those who feel aggrieved about us being left out of the city race series, and the lack of early communciation about this, please forward your grievances to Brooner.
If there is a sufficient groundswell of criticism on this matter, they will hopefully rethink their decision....

Well, it would have been nice for the annual Claro Street Race to have been included (Knaresborough for the last few years, but looking to be in the City of Ripon this year). It's a little tricky for clubs not in the know to get on the circuit.

It'll be on the fixtures list though, won't it? Get the word around - I'm sure that many people turn up to these events regardless of whether they're in a league. If they deliberately choose not to then that's their problem - and they are missing out!

But am I being blind....... is there somewhere hidden on the website a new fixture list with the "counting events" and how many of those count.
Not that I expect do be high on any list but I'd use it to put on the year planner and see which ones are near enough to be viable to travel to.

Yes I can use the new BO list too but i go cross eyed scrolling down and gazing at a computer screen.......

I'm sure I'll use the list as well once I get around to it. At the moment my method is to look at the local clubs websites for fixtures in areas I can travel to + from in a day + circle the bigger ones from the back of Compass Sport.

Thanks Eddie. I've now picked up the other tie too, removed the errant W35 from the Vet Women's list and axed the M20 who had crept into the M18- results.
As for how many races count: as the spreadsheet indicates, and in the absence of any indication to the contrary from the Nope boys, I've assumed that it will be five from ten to score. The ten (well, nine plus 'tbc') are listed across the top of the results sheets. If the number of available races drops to nine, then I'd argue that it should be only four to score. If it increases to 12 or more then there's a good case for increasing it to six.
These are only assumptions though: I'd assumed that Lincoln would be included, and I was wrong about that.
I see that the junior class at Cambridge is M/W16-. Aargh! Any M/W18s who run in the Open classes will score Open points. (The top M18s seem to have done this in Edinburgh anyway: congratulations to Matt, Stuart and Jamie on their top-ten places.) If there are any M/W18s who choose to run the 16- class then I imagine that CUOC will declare them non-comp for the race. I will nevertheless give them Urban League points in the Junior section.
Unless I'm told not to.

Re: Nopesport Urban League 2009
PLEASE REINSTATE LINCOLN City race into the series.
There is no reason why Lincoln cannot be in the series, as it was originally announced, and indeed most did not know it wasnt until after the event. It has all the right age groups, and meant Midlanders were able to compete. Not everyone can travel to every event so i think it is better to have more events to count from. I may not have gone to Lincoln if it was not a league event - even tho it was a great course and very enjoyable; or I may have run course A, Long, instead if age groups didnt matter.
So PLEASE Reinstate Lincoln.

not enormously fussed either way, but aren't you confusing "speculated about on Nopesport" with "announced"??
and given that the closest thing we've had to a definitive list is:
1. Edinburgh (24 Jan)
2. Cambridge (7 Feb)
3. Forres (22 Mar)
4. York (25 May)
5. Stockport (21 Jun)
6. TBC (likely to be Northern England)
7. London (12 or 26 Sep)
8. Chester (11 Oct)
9. Oxford (31 Oct)
10. Sheffield (Nov)
how exactly are Midlanders disadvantaged??

Interesting shout. Let's look at the stats :
5 races in the North (York, Stockport, TBC, Chester & Sheffield)
2 in Scotland (Edinburgh & Forres)
2 in the South East (Oxford & London)
1 in the Midlands (Cambridge)
I wouldn't say from that that the Midlanders are favoured..... Obviously those in the North are at the top of the list and those in the South West are worst off. Midlanders are probably in the middle.... as always...

Re: Nopesport Urban League 2009
o dear you poor midlanders
alternatively you could use the AA routeplanner to discover e.g. that 5 of the 9 confirmed events are within 100 miles of Birmingham, and London & York aren't that much further...
whereas we have 1 within the same radius, as done anyone in Brighton, or Dorset, or Bristol, or Cardiff, or Glasgow, or Edinburgh..and in fact, so does someone in Newcastle or Carlisle, at least until the final venue is confirmed...
so i'd say you were doing pretty well (except for having to live in the midlands, of course
