What a great event! To anyone who hasn't done it before, you missed a gem of an event. And if you think Lincolnshire is flat, think again as it has a serious hill with the castle and cathedral on top. However, it was more than a little sadistic to send us up a tower for the final control on on Men's and Women's Super Vets - it was the first control on other courses!
Unfortunately, one control was stolen on the butterfly loops in the middle of the university - luckily it wasn't the central one.
Many thanks to all involved in LOG for putting it on - great!

Re: Lincoln City Race
Results (very provisional) now up on the LOG website - sorry no link. Will Routegadget be on?
A good course mixing long and short legs, butterfly loops around the university buildings and sightseeing through the castle and around the Cathedral... and agree with the comment about the killer hill/slippery steps at the start of course B (end of other courses). I suspect, yet again having to go round from 20-21 (Course B), to use the only access into the vineyard area , caught a few people out - it's easy once you know/been before.
Looking forward to next year, and more cities.

Link is: http://www.logonline.org.uk/Result/city09/index.htm
We hope to upload route gadget soon, but the organiser is busy trying to remove the legs affected by the stolen kite

Thanks for the kind comments on the planning .... and yes, I am a sadistic git, but I couldn't resist the temptation of including Lucy tower on the courses.....

Re: Lincoln City Race
What a great course it was - getting to run straight up the drawbridge, into the castle and up into the tower was brilliant. I did that bit with a big grin on my face. Having a control clearly visible four flights of steps up was a bit evil but good fun - I would have loved to have seen people's faces as they came around the corner and saw it. Then that last bit in the ruins of the Bishop's Palace, right before the end and after the big hill climb, caught me out big time. Also, the first time I've had a control in a vinyard.
Pity about those thieving students - although it didn't affect me, it's always a planner's nightmare.
Heartily agree that Lincoln is a real gem for city races, especially with getting access to the castle.

Thieving students???
I guess Lincoln doesn't quite have the academic standards of Edinburgh...

Well, they were very tidy thieves... they took not only the kite, box and stake, but also the cable ties we attached it all to the tree with....

Pretty confident, as this is the student village and is away from the main public drag.... Unless we had an over-zealous security guard, but that's unlikely as they were informed of the event....

It always staggers me how brainless some students can be.
And was alcohol even an excuse at that time of day?

Re: Lincoln City Race
I made a 250 mile round trip to run in my old town and I really am glad I did, the A course was super! Paul made best use of the whole map, especially the Castle, I was unable to use the towers for the first City Race so it made a nice change. The Bishops Old Palace has to be one of the best urban orienteering locations anywhere....I saw a few people looking very lost in there!
The best moment for me was running under the flying buttresses of the Chapter House while the Cathedral struck 12 noon..... the sights, sounds, map and the course....awesome!!

Re: Lincoln City Race
Good news - we got our missing control back. One of the students obviously felt guilty, once the effects of the Saturday night alcohol had worn off, and gave us a call to say he'd put it back next to the tree it was stolen from.....

Re: Lincoln City Race
For anyone who's interested, our local paper, The Echo, have got all the photos from the city race on their archive now:
http://www.lincolnarchives.co.uk
and enter 9-0174* in the search box
There's an array there - some nice ones, too!

Re: Lincoln City Race
Looking at Routegadget for Lincoln it looks as if AL's drawn route from 6 to 7 went over an uncrossable wall (and his GPS route confirms this) - Was he disqualified?
