One word sums up today's map, course - and Scotia's time:
Awesome.
The contours and the closes really mark this race out from the other classic urban races. Thanks and congrats to all involved with putting together today's event.

Re: Edinburgh
Glad you liked it.
I had the chance to watch Scotia running through town, and it was very instructive. Yes, he was running fast, but more strikingly he was much smoother than anyone else, zero hesitation even when taking what I thought were non-optimal routes.
Meanwhile, the short course, with over 100 entrants, was won by M12
Sasha Chepelin, threatening Scotia's claim for the most remarkable performance of the day.

I also very much enjoyed Edinburgh on a cold but sunny day. The short visits into the 'park' were a bonus, and I was suprised by turning a corner to be faced by a long, steep flight of stairs. Some longer 'straight' running sections but plenty of intricate alleys as well. My first 'proper' visit to the City and I was pleasantly suprised. A great indoor and warm assembly, if a little out of the centre, and maybe next time more courses to separate runners and less numbers on each course... plus a bit shorter for the oldies perhaps.

Yes, I got a good result for Lincoln, which is why I'm particularly annoyed it won't count for the league

...also had a great run in Edinburgh last year until I disqualified myself

I was informed by Brooner that anyone who is not happy with not having Lincoln count for the Urban league should take it up with him.
Suffice to say that we were not overly happy that decisions were made at the last minute about leaving us out, contrary to indications on the forum, and, added to this, is the fact that the final details of the Urban league are yet to be posted, even though the '09 series has now begun ....

Ah, well.....

Also the Thomson family and Tony Udris, maybe others.
A brilliant event, thanks to all concerned, especially for the planning, which really kept you thinking. Even running straight from 24 to 26 (obviously not thinking enough as I didn't realise until Mharky made some rude comment at download!) didn't spoil the enjoyment. This, along with a trip to Glentress on Sunday for some sunny but wintry mountainbiking made for a superb weekend. Here's to a similar combination at Cambridge and Thetford Chase.

Re: Edinburgh
Most enjoyable race I've run in ages, and a top weekend with 2 races and a ceilidh, hope to see even more people enjoying it all next year

Re: Edinburgh
It was a really good weekend. There is no doubt that the street event is the premier event of the weekend, but I enjoyed the contrast of the 2 days. However I was not really familiar with Holyrood Park, and I can see that it will be hard to maintain interest in this one area year in year out. Maybe alternative Sunday venues will be needed - however counter to that all three events were easily accessible on foot having arrived by train (£18 1st class return

that's the problem - accessibility, the fact that most of the students who organised it live within 10mins walking distance of Arthur's Seat and probably don't have easy access to a car... takes planning/putting out controls to a whole new level, that I guess they might not have the time/inclination to do, they leave that to ESOC/INT/ELO

I definitely think there's life in a combined old town/arthur's seat full distance classic race!

I don't think it would be too much of a push to the "car free" idea to go to Blackford and the Hermitage or Costorphine for example - but Blackford at least is probably due a new map. A green is the maximum length you would get there without too much insane looping. But there are other options.
As someone who lives five minutes run from the Seat but still managed to pick the wrong route choice every time yesterday, there's definitely life in the old dog yet!

Re: Edinburgh
Winsplits is very interesting for me. If you look at real time between Kris Smith and me you'd assume there was either some following or collusion going on. Yet we did none of the long legs the same way - many massively different - brilliantly balanced planning Hector. However my point about familiarity is that, having selected my route I still had to navigate it, but when repeating a route it was simply knowledge - the latter must be the case for locals. All great training and good fun, but better when its new(ish)
